Hon Chemistry 9-15-22 Lab Equipment

HON CHEMISTRY – There’s a ton of useful equipment for chemistry this year! Below is a video with an overview of the apparatus that you’ll use in the chemistry lab. Click on the title above the video for a PDF of everything in the video. For all of the equipment, here’s what you need to know:

  • Know the name of each item.
  • Explain the use of each item (it’s written in white on the slide)

The second slide show is a great tour of our lab. It’s very important information about where stuff is and what it’s used for. Click on the title above the video for a PDF of everything in the video. I think you’ll find the lab tour very helpful. Both of these would be a great way to study equipment for the test! (Hint, hint!) πŸ™‚

Lab Apparatus Assignment – Study the lab equipment in the slide show below and then, when you know them, identify the equipment in the Lab Apparatus Review Assignment on Canvas. On the Chemistry Canvas page, scroll down to Assignments and you’ll see the assignment. Once you start the assignment, you will have 15 minutes to complete it. It’s due on Friday by 10:00 A.M.. If I counted right, there are 33 of them.

By the way, there is also a Practice assignment on Canvas that you can practice with before you do the actual assignment. Also, pictures of most of these are in the back of the Safety Packet.

Chemistry 9-13-22 Fundamental Science Skills Graphing Activity

Quick – list 10 things you remember from the 8th grade about interpreting and reading graphs! Not to worry – today you’re going to begin reviewing those important concepts and techniques. Here is your assignment for today, Tuesday:

IMPORTANT: Today’s assignment is one that you will have to complete at school. The program is on the school laptops and on the computers in the computer lab.

  1. Find the “Fundamental Science Skills” program on your computer.
  2. In the Graphing Skills section, click on “Graphing Data Points.” Read through and practice in each section VERY CAREFULLY!
  3. After you have completed each review section, go to the exam and complete it.
    • You must enter your name in the exact format you do when you title a lab – including the title of the activity.
    • Click on “Check Your Answers.” When you have 100% accuracy, bring your lap top to me to check your Check Answers Results Sheet. If you are doing the assignment outside of our class period, print off your exam results sheet and bring it to me to check.
    • IMPORTANT: Your answers and the format of it all must match exactly to receive credit. (Sometimes being exactly correct is extremely important!)
  4. The Graphing Data Points assignment is due by the end of the class period today.
  5. When you finish, next go to the Worksheet Tab and begin Graphing Exercises 2. Be sure and sign in to your own @ncstrojans Google account before you begin the activity.

Holler if you have any questions!

Chemistry 9-8-22 Chapter 2 Test Overview & Practice, Part 2

CHEMISTRY – Wow! Is your mind blown when you think about all that you’ve learned to do in chapter 2?

Here’s our overview of the test and what it will look like. Below that is the help session from this morning. Good stuff.

Today we did some really great practice of some of the test questions and looked at the answers to the Part 1 worksheet. and practice on some of the problems from this chapter. Did you see the mistake I made in the answers on the Ch 2 Sample Test & Review? #8 should be 25.0 cg. Also, at the end of this vodcast, I finished recording the big mama extra large problem we started in class.

Remember, don’t just read your notes – practice your notes, practice the problems, practice the memorization!! If you haven’t done so already, make sure to check out the Chapter 2 Stuff to Know sheets under the Test Info tab. Great info!!! And continue to practice with these online games and quizzes:

Online Textbook: There are wonderful Interactive Review Games with your online text. First open chapter 2. Then click on the the Student Premium tab, then Interactive Review Games.

sciencegeek.net has great interactive quizzes with questions like I’ll ask on the test. Find the unit that corresponds to the topics we’ve been studying and begin to quiz yourself. There are answers, too!

God bless you as you study! I’m praying for you!!

We’ve finished the chapter! Here’s our lesson from today on direct and inverse proportions AND a look at the density problems. More great practice for the test!

Speaking of tests, have you gone to the TEST Info tab yet? You might find something that will help a lot as you study!!!

Physics 9-6-22 Acceleration, Pt. 2 and Homework Review

PHYSICS: Speaking of sailboats, would you like to be on one right now? Good job with the derivations of acceleration formulas today! You’re doing really well with them – stay with it! Carefully examine what you know with the formulas you have that might fit. And if they don’t, examine what you do know that could lead you to what you need to know. You know? πŸ™‚

The problems for tonight may be a little challenging, but you can do it!! Do you need some extra practice rearranging the formulas, or just working the problems? Help session?
