CHEMISTRY: Wow! Great video, but do you feel like you have information overload!?
Here is the lab safety video we watched in class. It does have a ton of info, and the thing is, you absolutely must know it – and not just for the test, but also throughout the year in lab. It’s a really good idea to watch it again and take notes as you go.
PHYSICS – I missed you today!! Are you on your way to conquering the component method of vector addition? So which do you like better? Give yourself a chance to get used to separating everything into x and y and it will click, I promise!
CHEMISTRY: It’s been a great week – you’ve accomplished a lot! Here’s the assignment for today and information on the homework for this weekend.
Lab Apparatus Assignment – Identify the equipment in the Lab Apparatus Review Assignment on Canvas. On the Chemistry Canvas page, scroll down to Assignments and you’ll see the assignment. Once you start the assignment, you will have 20 minutes to complete it. It will count as a lab grade. It’s due on today (Friday) by the end of class. If I counted right, there are 65 questions – 33 pieces of equipment. IMPORTANT: It’s a great idea to do the practice at least once before you do the actual assignment.
Lab Safety Contract –Since we’ll be in lab so much, it’s important that you write your own lab safety contract. Here’s how you do it::

HUGE HINT: Go back and view the earlier posts/slide shows on Lab Apparatus, Lab Tour, Lighting a Bunsen burner, Measuring Mass and Volume, etc. Also, I’ve posted a lab apparatus & uses review on Canvas. All of these are VERY helpful for the test!!

CHEMISTRY – There’s a ton of useful equipment for chemistry this year! Below is a slide show with an overview of the apparatus that you’ll use in the chemistry lab. (Hint, hint!) 🙂
Lab Apparatus Assignment for Thursday– Study the lab equipment in the slide show below and then, when you know them, identify the equipment in the Lab Apparatus Review PRACTICE Assignment on Canvas. On the Chemistry Canvas page, scroll down to Assignments and you’ll see the PRACTICE assignment. You are doing the PRACTICE today before you do the actual lab quiz assignment tomorrow in class. Also, pictures of most of these are in the back of the Safety Packet.
PHYSICS – Hey guys, great job today on the intro to vectors – graphical vector addition, resultants, and the like. Have you done anything like this before? Great start today! Don’t forget your protractor and graph paper!
CHEMISTRY – Here’s a great refresher on lighting a Bunsen burner! By the way, in lab today, look closely and you may get to see a green flame when you put the copper wire in the flame. The electrons in the copper atoms were being excited and they gave off a green flame. Cool!!
Below is a slideshow with .everything you wanted to know about a Bunsen burner and how to light it. Be sure and view the slide show BEFORE you take turn in your lab sheets and take the test.
Tomorrow we’ll continue with Parts 4 – 6. Be sure and read ahead before you come to class! Also, make double dog sure you are keeping up with the observations in each part and answering ALL of the questions at the end of the lab on pg. 17 – 18. There are a TON of them! Check your syllabus for due dates!
CHEMISTRY: Today you will begin Graphing Exercise 1. Don’t forget if you get stuck, you can always go back and check the EXCEL Online Graphs Tutorial handout.
Here are the instructions for Monday – (You are going to be dreaming about graphs!!)
IMPORTANT: A rough draft of your first graph (graph J) is due tomorrow by class time. Check the syllabus for the due date for the entire assignment.
FIRST: You will be doing Exercise 1 with Excel Online. Make sure you are using your Office 365 account with your school email. This way you can do this assignment at school or at home and access it with your own computer, tablet, phone, etc.

IMPORTANT: Your sample Excel graph must include a variable unit (either x or y) that has a superscript or a subscript in the unit. This is so you can practice doing this step. Your sample graph is due Monday by 8:00 A.M. Don’t forget that also Graphing Exercise 2 is due on Monday by 8:00 A.M.
FIRST: You will be making your sample graph with Excel Online. Students can use this for free! Your first step is to sign in to your Office 365 account. Click here to log in https://www.office.com/ (If you haven’t signed up for a free Office 365 account with your school email, STOP and do that first. Instructions are on this weeks syllabus.) Using Excel online, you can do this assignment at school or at home and access it with your own computer, tablet, phone, etc.
