Physics 9-4-13 Free Fall, Pt. 2 and Reaction Times

PHYSICS – Here’s a question – how could this kid figure out how tall this cliff is? Good job on finding the height of the balcony – were you within 10% error? Wonder why???

From Wednesday, here’s the work we did on #32, the “ball dropped from the top of a building and thrown up from the ground at the same time” problem. The problems tonight will be a little challenging, but after today’s hints, no problem!!

Draw a picture, write down what you know and are looking for. What formula fits? On the problems with something going up and then dropping something else, like the pelican or the parachute, don’t forget that the item dropped has the velocity of the first thing. And to find how far apart they are, you usually have to figure in that the first thing was still moving when the second thing was dropped. Make sense? And be careful to keep positive and negative straight! Good luck – you’re doing a great job with these. I’m really proud of you!!

Hon Chemistry 9-4-13 Relationships Between Data

HON CHEMISTRY – Hey guys, here’s lecture from Wednesday on direct and inverse proportions. Just brief info for the test for now, and we’ll put it to practice in a couple of activities after the test. I have not yet posted the graphing activity – I’ll let you know when I do.

By the way, speaking of tests, how’re you doing on these last problems? Are you able to pull together all we’ve done in this chapter? Help session?

Chemistry 9-4-13 SI Conversions, Pt. 2

CHEMISTRY – Great job moving ahead with conversion factor problems on Wednesday! Thursday night you’ll have some harder problems – don’t up, you can do it! Remember what you learned about finding the quantity given by removing all the conversion factors.

Physics 9-3-13 Free Fall Acceleration

PHYSICS – So how about a little free fall? Here’s our short discussion on acceleration due to gravity. What’s your reaction time? Knowing what you now know, is there a way for you to figure that out? Let’s play with the problems tomorrow and see if we can do something useful with free fall!

Hey – how are the labs coming? You can put them all in your paper lab book or in your digital lab book (on Google Drive), but remember that all after the density lab must be put in Google Drive. In either case, make sure you are following the Digital Lab Report Manuscript Form.

Chemistry 9-3-13 Conversion Factors

CHEMISTRY – Great job with our start to using conversion factors today! Since we had a super, super short lecture, I decided to post an old lesson that will have lots more examples.

Remember, this isn’t just about getting an answer – some of you can do that in your head. This is about being able to convert from one unit to another using the Q-formula. (And yes, you have to do it that way!)

Make sure you practice using your notes tonight, it’ll help you remember the steps we followed today in class. We’ll give it another go tomorrow!
