Physics 9-12-13 Intro to Vectors

PHYSICS – Hey guys, great job today on the intro to vectors – graphical vector addition, resultants, and the like. Have you done anything like this before? We’ll spend tomorrow practicing adding vectors graphically. Great start today! Don’t forget your protractor and graph paper Monday!

Hon Chemistry 9-12-13 Intro to Chemistry

HON CHEMISTRY: So now that you know how to use all the tools we’ll need in chemistry, it’s time to start talking about ….chemistry!!

Were you able to able to make applications with the branches of chemistry and categories of scientific work? We’ll finish talking about the properties of matter on Monday. Don’t forget to check your syllabus for homework. You might want to go ahead as soon as you can and begin memorizing the symbols of the elements, as well as the atomic numbers and mass numbers for elements 1 – 30. Is that something you’ve had to do in your other classes?

Now it gets interesting!
🙂

Physics 9-9-13 Rocket Problem & Chapter 2 Overview, Pt. 2

PHYSICS: Wow! Talk about an abrupt change in plans – no pun intended toward the rocket problem that we finished in class today! So – test Wednesday and Velocity & Braking Distance lab tomorrow. Do you have your lab plans polished up? You are going to need every available minute tomorrow, so come prepared!

Speaking of the rocket problem – how’d you do? And do you recognize the picture? It’s the bottom of a Polaris A-1 submarine launched missile – photo taken at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Go figure that a vacation photo would come in handy in physics! Here’s the work that we did on the problem and a bit more info on the test that will now be on Wednesday.

Chemistry 9-9-13 Chapter 2 Test Overview

CHEMISTRY – Wow! Hasn’t just soooooooo much gone into making up chapter 2? Here’s the overview of the test from today. Remember, don’t just read your notes – practice your notes, practice the problems, practice the memorization!!

If you haven’t had a chance to do so already, make sure you go to Edline, open the Chemistry class page, click on Tests in the right column, and check out the two review sheets on chapter 2. Great info!!! And continue to practice with these online games and quizzes:

Online Textbook: There are wonderful Interactive Review Games with your online text. First open chapter 2. Then click on the the Student Premium tab, then Interactive Review Games. There are games like Millionaire, Bootcamp, and Pyramid that quiz you with questions just like the ones I’ll give you on the test. See how high you can get your score!!

sciencegeek.net has great interactive quizzes with questions like I’ll ask on the test. Find the unit that corresponds to the topics we’ve been studying and begin to quiz yourself. There are answers, too!

God bless you as you study! I’ll be praying for you!!

Chemistry 9-6-13 Relationships Among Data

CHEMISTRY – Can you believe it? We finished the chapter today! Here’s the brief lecture from Friday on direct and inverse proportions and then the beginning of our overview of the chapter 2 test.

Speaking of tests, we’ll have another help session for some of the harder problems on Monday morning at 7:15. BTW – go to Edline and look under “Tests” and you might find something that will help a lot as you begin to study. Yes, it’s time to begin studying; no, it’s not too early. And if you need extra practice on anything, don’t forget the help session Monday. (Sorry! Not Wednesday, Monday!) Begin making a list of the problems you need help with or questions you have.

Also, don’t forget to check out the Interactive Review Games with your online text and also sciencegeek.net. Great practice with both memorization, concepts and problem solving! God bless you as you begin studying! I’ll be praying for you!!

Physics 9-6-13 Pelicans & Rockets (Chapter 2 Overview, Pt. 1)

PHYSICS – Happy Friday! Here’s the beginning of the overview of chapter 2. Towards the end – the pelican problem and a start on the rocket that stopped. Or did it?

Are you becoming more comfortable with working problems? When selecting formulas, it’s always a good idea to ask yourself “Why?”. Why can you use this formula? Why is it legit? Why is it the best one? Is there a better route to the solution? And then, continue to practice them over and over til it starts to become second nature! Btw – did we come to a final decision about a help session Tuesday morning?

I really appreciate your work this week! Have a great weekend!! 🙂

Chemistry 9-5-13 Scientific Notation

CHEMISTRY – I like the way you are catching on to conversion factors! And great job with scientific notation today! Did you realize your calculator was so smart? Have you conquered it yet?

Need any extra help or practice? Help session tomorrow morning at 7:15ish A.M.

Remember, the best way to really learn all of the things from this chapter is practice, practice, practice! And just so you can do that, I’ve put it all together in your homework tonight….cuz I love you! 🙂 You can do it!!
