Chemistry 3-25-14 Chapter 5 Test Review

CHEMISTRY: God bless as you study for your test on chapter 5! Here’s the overview we did in class today. Did it help?

Also, have you gone back to the Chapter 5 stuff to know/study suggestion sheet on Edline? What about the answers to the possible discussion questions? Good luck studying. I’ll be praying for you!!

  1. There is something messed up with the sound on this video. If i turn the volume all the way up and put ear buds on, I can hear you are talking but I cant understand what you say. Is there a way to fix it?

    • Mark – Sorry! I’m guessing the batteries were about the go on on the mic. Hopefully you can get something from just watching the video part! Also be sure and go over the Ch 5 Study Suggestions sheet on Edline!

  2. If something is in a bottle on the project do we have the chance to pour the liquid out instard of using the liquid?

    • Terrence – That’s up to you to decide, based on your research. But you can use the liquid and/or the bottle.

  3. While doing the lab Monday, I noticed that the iodine ions formed a blue color when it reacted, but it faded to yellow soon after.

  4. In the lab reactivity of halide ions, I have discovered that silver nitrate was very reactive to the halogens and formed a color precipitate.

  5. The pretest that we took today really helped me understand the making of the periodic table problems and understanding the trends of the periodic table problems

  6. The pre test wasn’t as hard as I originally thought. The lab though was odd for most of them did not change and the 2 unknowns look exactly the same to me and my lab partner so I’m curious as to if we got that correct.

  7. There is a lot of information regarding the periodic table trends. When I see the periodic table now I see lots of things that I never saw before. I now can relate to the different blocks, trends that decrease and increase across groups and periods such as: atomic radii, ionic radii, electronegativity. It’s much more than a table of elements.

  8. I have learned so many periodic trends that I had NO ABSOLUTE idea that they were their. Who knew that the periodic table had so many patterns just by being arranged by grouping elements by their properties. I looked it up on the internet and it said that the trends and patterns on the periodic table exist because of the similar atomic structure of the elements within their respective group families or period and the periodic nature of the elements which helps predict other missing elements! How cool!!

  9. I found it interesting that when a anion is formed it gains additional electrons and increases in atomic radius. Also I learned that because they gain extra electrons, they have a larger electron cloud.

  10. I liked doing the periodic table pretest! It really helped me notice what I needed to study for the test. It also helped me realize how the things I learned like ionization energy and electronegativity could be applied to the making of the periodic table.

  11. Atomic radii increases from the top to the bottom of a group and from right to left across a period and all of the others do the opposite, correct? Because if not I most likely failed the test.

  12. Atomic Radius is unlike all other trends we studied (electronegativity, etc…) in that it increases as you go down a group and decreases as you go across a period.

  13. While doing the chapter 5 pretest, I felt like a scientist making a whole new periodic table and finding different trends throughout the elements.

  14. I learned so many things that i didnt know this week. All of the periodic trends and that the periodic table was made so perfectly every element is in its spot for a reason.

  15. I really liked learning about periodic trends. I would of never thought that the periodic table was so organized it’s crazy how God made everything.

  16. I think it’s crazy that you can predict element properties on the periodic table without even knowing what the element is.

  17. So if we don’t need to use some of the items that are already in our parka, in order to make some things to survive, we don’t have to source any of those items?
