CHEMISTRY – Wow! Hasn’t just soooooooo much gone into making up chapter 2? Good luck studying for your test! Here’s the overview of the test from today. Remember, don’t just read your notes – practice your notes, practice the problems, practice the memorization!!

If you haven’t had a chance to do so already, make sure you go to Edline, open the Chemistry class page, click on Tests in the right column, and check out the two review sheets on chapter 2. Great info!!! And continue to practice with these online games and quizzes:

Online Textbook: There are wonderful Interactive Review Games with your online text. First open chapter 2. Then click on the the Student Premium tab, then Interactive Review Games. There are games like Millionaire, Bootcamp, and Pyramid that quiz you with questions just like the ones I’ll give you on the test. See how high you can get your score!!

sciencegeek.net has great interactive quizzes with questions like I’ll ask on the test. Find the unit that corresponds to the topics we’ve been studying and begin to quiz yourself. There are answers, too!

Good luck studying! I’ll be praying for you!!

Chemistry Computer Lab Assignment 9-11-12

Hey Guys! Here are the instructions for today. First, you will be doing a graphing activity (the instructions are below.) Then, after you are finished, I want to you to explore some of the links that will be a great help to you on the test.

1. Find the “Fundamental Science Skills” program on your computer.
2. In the Graphing Skills section, click on “Graphing Data Points.” Read through and practice in each section VERY CAREFULLY!
3. After you have completed each review section, go to the exam and complete it. You must enter your name in the exact format you do when you make a web post. Click on “Check Your Answers.” If you have 100% accuracy, print off your exam and bring it to me to check. Your answers must match exactly to receive credit. (Sometimes being exactly correct is important!)

4. When you have received a 100 on your Graphing Exercise, explore these links to great helps for the test!

Go the Edline, open the Chemistry class page, click on Tests in the right column, and check out the two review sheets on chapter 2. Great info!!!

Online Textbook: There are wonderful Interactive Review Games with your online text. First open chapter 2. Then click on the the Student Premium tab, then Interactive Review Games. Graphing Exercise

Hey Guys! I neglected to give you the first part of the instructions to find the Graphing Exercise when I put the instructions on your syllabus. Here is what the first part should have said:

Go to the graph link on Edline (it’s in the Contents section) or on the chemistry website (it’s on the Graphing Helps link under Chemistry Tutorials”) and review the instructions on constructing a line graph. Next, at the bottom left of the page, click on the link to “Practice for Graphing and Interpreting Data.” Review the notes on Scientific Graphs.

Now, you can continue the instructions on your syllabus. BTW – notes on making paper graphs and graphs on Excel are on that page also. Holler if you have any questions.

Physics 9-10-12 Two Students, a Pelican, and a Rocket (Free Fall Problems Review)

PHYSICS – Happy Monday! Here’s the review we did of a few of the free fall problems today. How are you doing with them? As you are working problems and selecting formulas, it’d be a good idea to ask yourself “Why?”. Why can you use this formula? Why is it legit? Why is it the best one? Is there a better route to the solution? And continue to practice them over and over til it starts to become second nature!

Tomorrow lets take a step in the other direction and look at the concepts. Help session tomorrow morning at 7:15. Any questions?

Chemistry 9-10-12 Relationships Among Data

CHEMISTRY – Can you believe it? We finished the chapter today! Here’s the brief lecture from Monday on direct and inverse proportions. It is brief info for the test, and we’ll begin practicing some of it tomorrow. Meet me in the computer lab instead of in the classroom. Go ahead and log on to the website, Edline, and the online textbook.

Speaking of tests, one last help session tomorrow, Wednesday, morning at 7:15. BTW – go to Edline and look under “Tests” and you might find something that will help a lot as you begin to study. Yes, it’s time to begin studying; no, it’s not too early. And if you need extra practice on anything, don’t forget the help session Wednesday! Begin making a list of the problems you need help with or questions you have.

Also, don’t forget to check out the Interactive Review Games with your online text and also sciencegeek.net. Great practice with both memorization, concepts and problem solving! Good luck studying! I’ll be praying for you!!

Hon Chemistry 9-7-12 Chapter 2 Overview

HON CHEMISTRY – Good luck studying for your test! Remember, don’t just read your notes – practice your notes, practice the problems, practice the memorization!! If you haven’t had a chance to print them out, here are links to the study suggestion sheet and the chapter 2 formula sheet. Click on the names below to open.

Chapter 2 Formulas & Stuff to Know
Chapter 2 Study Suggestions

Guess what I found – an old, old review of a few of the harder/different conversion factor problems and a percent error problem snuck in at the end. Will it help you in working problems?

Also, don’t forget the Interactive Review Games with your online text and also sciencegeek.net. Good luck studying! I’ll be praying for you!!

Physics 9-7-12 Free Fall, Pt. 2 and Reaction Times

PHYISICS – Here’s a question – how could this kid figure out how tall this cliff is? Good job on finding the height of the balcony Now go forth and write it up in your lab book. And reaction time! Who’s gonna have the fastest rxn time? Post your results here!

From Friday, here’s the work we did on #32, the “ball dropped from the top of a building and thrown up from the ground at the same time” problem. The ones this weekend will be a little challenging, but after today’s hints, no problem!!

Draw a picture, write down what you know and are looking for. What formula fits? On the problems with something going up and then dropping something else, like the pelican or the parachute, don’t forget that the item dropped has the velocity of the first thing. And to find how far apart they are, you usually have to figure in that the first thing was still moving when the second thing was dropped. Make sense? And be careful to keep positive and negative straight! Good luck – you’re doing a great job with these. I’m really proud of you!! Have a great weekend!

Hon Chemistry 9-6-12 Relationships Between Data

HON CHEMISTRY – Hey guys, here’s lecture from Thursday on direct and inverse proportions. Just brief info for the test for now, and we’ll put it to practice in a couple of activities after the test.

By the way, speaking of tests, how’re you doing on these last problems? Are you able to pull together all we’ve done in this chapter? One last help session – tomorrow morning at 7:15. 🙂

Physics 9-6-12 Free Fall Acceleration

PHYSICS – So how do you like free fall? Here’s the lecture from Thursday on acceleration due to gravity. Hey, what’s your reaction time? Knowing what you now know, is there a way for you to figure that out?

Also, will this be number 3 or 4 in your lab book?. Put your data in a table and be sure and show all your calculations/work. (Don’t forget that all labs, these and the labs you’ve done that have reports on lab sheets are due on Monday.) Let’s play with the problems tomorrow and see if we can do something useful with free fall!
