This week in chemistry i have learned all of my lab safety rules. This will be good for the future so i know what to do whenever an incident happens to keep me and my classmates safe.
This week I have learned to apply my lab safety rules to the labs we will do in class. If anything were to go wrong for me or my classmates, I will know what to do and how to fix it.
I will apply having more patience and reviewing things in day-to-day life. Chemistry forces you to have patience with the experiment, until you get what’s desired, and you always need to double check it, to make sure that your results align with what’s provided.
i have gotten better with taking more responsibilty for my schoolwork and reading everything more clear and figuring out the process of how to solve the problem.
One thing i learned in chemistry this week (that can be applied to my everyday life is patience. I have been absent for two days thus far this week due to being sick, and i’ve missed two labs. The patience it has taken to understand whats going on in the classroom from afar will stay with me.
This week I felt like I applied myself very well to help my lab partner and myself get the work done that needed to be completed. I applied the knowledge from previous lessons to help complete the lab.
Cancer uses the nervous system to grow via sending grow signals to neurons. Furthermore, this pushes the viewpoint of cancer being a plague and a parasite to the body by using it against you. https://www.sciencenews.org/article/lung-cancer-brain-neuron
One thing I have learned about application this week, is learning how to think critically under pressure when someone is demanding something from you. Also learning how to figure things out on my own, and not having to rely on others.
In chemistry I learned how to do excel graphs pretty well, I can apply that to college and even a job for following instructions specifically and precisely.
This week I have learned to apply my lab safety rules to the labs we will do in class. I’m focusing on making sure I make no mistakes while using anything dangerous.
In chemistry, I have learned to do stuff on my own than to count on other for work. It has also taught me to be more involved in my classes, and to be more responsible with my work.
S- Skill
One new skill that I have learned this unit is how to balance a sand and salt mixture accurately on a triple-beam balance. First step is to make sure the pointer is balanced. Make sure the balance is set back to 0. Add some of the mixture into the weight boat and set it on the plate. Adjust the riders until they balance out the mixture. Lastly, read the mass thats on the riders after you have balanced the mixture.
A new skill I’ve acquired this unit is measure the volume of a liquid in a graduated cylinder. Leveling you’re eyes with the meniscus and reading the volume of the lowest point of that curve. First you have the graduated cylinder and the liquid in it look at the biggest number the liquid has past and read the ones place. Now you estimate the value to one decimal place.

First have the graduated cylinder and the liquid in it look at the biggest number the liquid has past and read the ones place. Now you estimate the value to one decimal place.
One skill I have learned is how to use a bunsen burner basically you put the tube on the gas then you turn the gas to even with the tube then you turn the burner on then you need a striker and strike the gas and then a flame will appear.
One new skill i have learned this unit is how to use a bunsen burner. To use, turn on the gas parallel to the hose and light it with a striker. When lit, adjust the air ports and barrel until the flame is blue and has 3 visible cones.
A skill that I have learned is how to estimate the volume of a graduated cylinder. First you have to look at the biggest number the liquid has past and then read the ones place. Now you look at the bottom of the meniscus and estimate where its at.
Skill- One skill that i have learned in this chapter is how to find the mass of the salt/sand mixture alone. First, you need to find the mass of the weigh boat. Second, you need to find the mass of the salt/sand mixture and the weigh boat. Lastly, to find the mass of salt/sand mixture alone you take your masses of both the mixture and weight boat, and subtract it by the mass of the weight boat.
A skill I have learned this week is how to use a bunsen burner. You turn on the gas, close the air hole, and then spark your striker 1-2 inches away from the gas. I’ve learned that you can use the bunsen burner for many things like; Boiling a liquid, heating a substance, and evaporating a liquid.
A skill I have learned is how to use a Bunsen burner. You first hook your hose to the main gas valve and once ready, turn on the gas and light your flame. You then adjust the oxygen and amount to how much you need for the flame size to be correct and the heat of the flame to be correct. Then you can use this for boiling water, evaporating, and heating substances.
A skill that I have learned in this unit was how to properly filter a liquid through a funnel. The steps to how to master this skill is firstly, setting up the correct equipment by placing a beaker under the funnel. Then you will fold your filter paper without touching the middle to avoid getting oil on it. Next, wet the filter paper and place it into the funnel and support the funnel on the iron ring. After this, you will pour the substance into the funnel and wait for it to filter out.
Skill:
This week I learned how to use a striker to light a bunsen burner. You use two hands and press hardly against the rough piece of metal holding the strike 1-2 above the bunsen burner until it creates a spark.
A skill I have learned during this unit is how to use lab equipment, more specifically a striker for lighting a Bunsen Burner. With two hands you squeeze the two handles and apply pressure to create a spark. Make sure the striker is turned over and 1-2 inches over the Bunsen Burner.
Skill:
This week I learned how to use a striker to light a bunsen burner. You use two hands and press very hard against the rough piece of metal holding the striker 1-2 inches above the bunsen burner until it creates a spark.
the skill that i learned how to do was use a striker to light a bunsen burner. you have to hold it upside down 1-2 inches above the bunsen burner and push hard and down onto the metal so the flint will create a spark and light the gas coming out of the bunsen burner.
A skill I have learned to do this week was to light a Bunsen Burner. Face the striker upside down and apply pressure to the handle while moving it back and forth, until your burner lights. Hold it 1-2 inches above your burner at an arm’s length while you do this.
A skill I learned this unit is preparation before lab. Before starting lab thoroughly read the instructions and hints. Paying attention to small details and reading everything in the lab instructions completely helps you to finish the lab safely and in a timely order.
One new skill that I have learned how to do is use a triple beam balance. First, make sure the balance is zeroed out. Next use a weigh boat to mass your measurement. Then, use the riders to determine the mass of the object. Last, make sure the balance is back at zero when you are done.
One skill i learned this week is how to help another student study. I have a friend who was studying in PE at the same time as me just today, for a biology test, and I helped her learn her material through analogies and little metaphors to remember.
One of the skills I have learned this week is reading the lab thoroughly before I start doing the lab. Making sure you know what is going on in the lab is very important. Pay attention to the small details in the instructions and if you are confused do not be afraid to ask questions.
A skill that I have learned is paying attention before the labs. There is usually some kind of hint. Figuring out the small details is one of the key factors in the labs, and it helps a lot.
A new skill I learned was how to use a Bunsen burner by checking the hose for cracks and cuts and then firmly attaching the hose to the gas and making sure it’s adjusted correctly. I would then grab my striker and practice making sparks. Once I have done it correctly I will turn the gas on and make sparks until it lit. If it doesn’t light I would turn off the gas and waft the gas in the air away and try again.
This week, I successfully learned how to light a bunsen burner. Make sure that the burner is firmly attached to the main gas valve, and make sure there are no cracks. Then take out your striker, and practice using it several times away from the burner, or anyone else. Then, once you’ve managed to figure out how to get multiple sparks through one strike, turn the gas on and strike consistently at the bunsen burner, adjusting the needle valve and barrel if not working right away, until ignition. If the gas goes on for too long without being lit, turn it off and waft the vapors away from the burner.
A skill that I learned this week was being able adjust a Bunsen burner when i want a Non voluminous flame by twisting the barrel or if I want the flame to be taller or shorter by adjusting the needle valve.
This week i learned how to light a bunsen burner using a striker. Make sure to hold the striker with two hands and and press hard against the steel part. Practice it away from the gas and once once you can consistently get a spark then do it above the bunsen burner with the gas turned on. Before doing any of this make sure that there are no cracks in the bunsen burners hose.
A skill a learned this week was lightning a Bunsen Burner. I used the striker 1-2 inches above the barrel and pressed the flint hard against the steel and made a spark to light the gas.
This week I’ve learned to use a bunsen burner. First you have to check the hose make sure there in no cracks. Then you plug the hose in and make sure it is secure. Now you turn the gas on, and take the striker and put it 1 to 2 inches above the barrel of the burner and strike it. To make the fire smaller or larger adjust the needle valve. To make the fire blue or orange adjust the barrel so the airports open or close.

Now turn the gas on and hold the striker 1 to 2 inches above the barrel of the burner and strike it. To make the flame blue or orange adjust the barrel and to make the flame smaller or larger adjust the needle valve.
This entire week I have learned to apply my lab safety rules to the labs we do in class. If anything were to go wrong for me or my classmates, Both of us will know how to fix the problem. It is very important to know your lab safety rules in case of an emergency.
One skill I learned this week was on how to use a bunsen burner. You first check to see if there are any cracks in the hose, then you plug it in into the gas valve, and use the striker with two hands, and hold it two to three inches above until you get a flame, turn it on and adjust the air ports, valve, and barrel for height of flame, and the heat, and color.
I rate term 1 in Chemistry a 3/5 because at first I struggled to stay on top of my work but I have learned how stay on top of it instead of getting behind. Chemistry has also taught me how to stay on top of my other subjects too instead of waiting til the last minute.
