Hon Chemistry 11-18-15 Properties of Radioactive Isotopes

HON CHEMISTRY: Can you guess what it is?/ It’s a picture of uranium ore under UV light. Cool, huh! Here’s the lecture from today on the first of properties of radioactive nuclides. We’ll finish them tomorrow. Talk about leaving on a cliff hanger!!

  1. This week in Chemistry we are learning about radioactivity. I am enjoying learning about radiation and the electromagnetic spectrum. The song will sure help with remembering it! I am doing great with the math part of finding the ratios of neutrons to protons. I am struggling a little bit with keeping up with who discovered what about radiation and it’s properties. If I study more I should be able to get it.

  2. This week i learned more about radioactivity and i like it. I also enjoyed the carbon isotope mini projects and how we had to experiment with our creativity. I am enjoying this chapter and i hope to do great on our test.

  3. Chemistry this week was neat. We learned about radioactive isotopes and I’m still a little confused on what a nucleon is. It was very fun doing the carbon isotope project and making that. We also learned about how decay works and who discovered radioactivity. I give myself a 3 of 5 for the week. But next week is thanksgiving break!

  4. One thing I felt I did well this week was my isotope project. I followed all of the directions and gave a clear representation of what each carbon isotope looks like.

  5. This week, I would rate myself 3 out of 5 stars. On the day of each lecture, I would have a hard remembering each concept, but once we reviewed the next day and connected different ideas, it all started to make sense. After completing the mini isotope project, I have an easier time remembering that each isotope of an element has the same number of protons and a different number of neutrons.
