Chemistry: Lost Beneath the Comstock Lode

Welcome back to school! Great way to start the last nine-weeks! Here’s the place where you can post your questions about the Lost Beneath the Comstock Lode project so that everyone can see the answers. πŸ™‚

First answer – yes, there was a typo in The Mission part of the info. Change plane to bomb, and change desert to mine. Got it? Here’s what it should say: “After you have carried your supplies to a safe distance, the bomb explodes, leaving useless debris strewn about the mine.” And for those who weren’t able to come to class today, the due date is Wednesday, April 10.

A really useful hint? Go back and re-read the project again – this time with a highlighter. It’s amazing how much I miss the first time I read something. So what’s your next question?

  1. When we internally document the websites do we use the name of who wrote the article or made the thing on the website? Or do we use the website name?

    • Moriah – It will be different for different types of sources, but if there is an author, you use the author and the date. If there is no author, you use the title and the date. There’s a better explanation and examples in the project sheets.

      • When we internal document a website, can we use the copyright date of the whole website, or would you rather us use the date of the article?

        • Lauren – Not the date you found the article online, but the date the article was written, published, etc. If there is not a date for the article, then the copyright date of the website.

  2. If we have the same reason not to bring all the different food items can we include them in one paragraph or do we need to put them in separate paragraphs?

    • Seanbenet – Yes, and make sure you include internal documentation for it both in your paper and on the page of the illustration. And congrats on Best of the Preps!

    • Matt – I can think of at least three things you should be making or doing that need an illustration. You could have lots more, however.

    • Andrea – Only to get ideas, but you have to have a published source for your final source to make sure what you found is true. If it is, it’s probably been published somewhere.
