Chemistry 1-13-17 Intro to Radioactivity

CHEMISTRY: Great start to a new chapter! I think you’ll be surprised how much nuclear chemistry is already a part of your everyday life. Also now you know where E=mc2 came from!!

By the way, you ought to read about the life of Marie Cure when you get a chance. Fascinating woman of science with an incredible story!

  1. This week was confusing with the homecoming week but I believe I retained all of the notes. I was a little excited to learn about isotopes and I’m going to have trouble remembering mass of neutrons I know for sure. But this week has been fun either way

    • This week I would rate myself 3/5 because despite all of the distractions I tried my best to stay focused this week. I think in the future I need to start studying the notes as soon as I get them to be more prepared for the tests and homework assignments.

  2. This week in chemistry i rate myself a 3/5. I was able to focus well in class and I also did good on observing when we did our activity. However, I am having trouble keeping up with the definitions of some of the words because a lot of them look the same to me. I really enjoyed learning about the stories of the scientists and how they made their discoveries.

  3. This week was a little difficult I struggled with learning how to find the average atomic mass and remembering what the atomic number stood for. I plan on really trying to focus on my homework and work out the problems so I can understand for next week.

  4. This week was pretty hard. I struggled with learning how to find the average atomic mass. Then the notes were hard because of trying to remember all the people we talked about. This week, I’d give myself a 3/5 because although it was a little difficult, I did my homework

  5. i would rate myself a 4/5 this week in chemistry. i worked very hard to learn each section we went over. the activity we did went very successfuly. i read the lab before entering class and knew what to do when i came in. i took notes very well and i was very interested in all of the scientists stories. one thing i can fix next week is prepare myself more for he test comin up with it being two chapters.

  6. This week was interesting learning about isotopes and learning how all the scientists had discovered them. Also I learned how hard it was for the scientists to discover an atom without being able to see it with our lab we did Wednesday.

  7. This week I would rate myself a 4/5 because I meant to print off the different syllabus for the week, but I never did. Also because I did a good job of catching up on the lab sheet and being quite productive with it.

  8. This week I felt i struggled a little with the atom lab because i had trouble finding observations, but I think i did ok. I feel I got a pretty good foundation on atoms and isotopes so that will help me in the long run.

  9. This week in chemistry I learned how the find average atomic mass. I would rate myself a 3/5 because I didn’t understand it at first but as I practiced it more I’m starting to understand it better.

  10. This week I would rate myself a 4/5 I did really good with learning the average atomic mass and calculating it. I was very interested in all of the scientists we learned about and I did very good on the lab.

  11. Rate:3/4
This week when asked to preform a lab without having the ablility to use my sense of sight, I struggled quite a bit when coming up with observations. After preforming the lab, I learned the importance of using all sense when looking for observations and NOT to forget about the ones that are right in front of you, however, are so simple that you are blind to them. Also during this week I finally got back into the routine of note taking and keeping up with the speed of the lessons.

  12. This week I did decent in the activity I made great connections between what we did and how it related to the work of scientist. The class communicated great afterwards. Me and Tyler talked about the differences between the objects in our cans. I would rate myself a four out of five with the homework.

  13. This week in chemistry I struggled with the lab finding observations without using your eyes. My triumph was learning how to find the atomic mass and mass number. This week i would rate myself a 4/5.

  14. This week I rate myself a 3/5 I found learning about the scientists and their discoveries very interesting. My Triumph this week was being able to apply the stuff I learned in class to my homework.

  15. This week as we learned a new lesson about atoms and what they are made of, this for me was a good refresh from what I had learned in 8th grade about protons, neutrons, and electrons.I also feel as though this week I learned more about how the atom was discovered and who some of the scientist were that contributed to the discovery of whats inside an atom. The activity was very interesting and it showed me that when discovering atoms, scientists had to conclude observations from things other than sight.

  16. I would rate myself a 3 /5 this week because I did well learning most of the stuff but kept on forgetting the formula and I also did most of my homework at the last minute

  17. This week in chemistry i would rate myself a 3/5. I feel I did well with the activity we did making indirect observations. I am struggling however, with the problems we are now learning and having to complete on homework. I hope to better understand them as the test gets closer!

  18. This week I learned about atoms and how they can be affected by adding or taking away neutrons. I struggled with the formula at first but after I practiced I was able to do it with no problem.

  19. This week in chemistry i would rate myself a 3/5. I think i understood the lesson pretty well, but the sock and can lab would have to be my struggle for the week. I had a hard time coming up with all of the observations.

  20. My triumph this week was definitely learning and understanding everything about the atom. I struggled with it a little in eight grade but it is much more clear to me this year. The history of discovering the atom, discovering how to split the atom, and Marie Curie’s story were my favorite things to learn about! It was also very cool to observe our “atoms” in the lab. Though it is obviously much different in an actual lab, it was cool to put ourselves in scientists shoes and see how difficult it is to observe something you can’t see. This chapter is already one of my favorites and i’m very excited for the rest.

  21. This week I started off thinking that this was just a review of physical science, but quickly realized I was wrong (to some degree). With being out a day this week because I was sick and many other classes’ assignments I struggled properly juggling my time management and catching up properly in Chemistry. I also learned that how dependent I have been in my eyes to make observations and really struggled with the activity this week. I plan to work on both of those struggles. This week I would overall rate myself a 3/5

  22. I would rate myself a 4/5 for the week. I took good notes and understood everything we did in class. I struggled with a couple of questions from the homework last night but I ask questions and im not having any trouble with it anymore.

  23. This week was very interesting. I loved hearing about the scientists and how they made their discoveries. Something i need to get better on is learning what things stand for and being able to do problems and homework without constantly referring to my notes.

  24. This week, I would rate myself a 4/5. I enjoyed learning about the scientists and their discoveries about the atoms. It was cool learning about each contribution and how they researched it. I liked the lab that we did, mimicking the scientists by discovering the unseen things within the sock.
