Chemistry 8-15-13 Lab Safety Test

CHEMISTRY: Great job in lab this week! Wow – you’ve learned a lot!! Don’t forget that the entire Exp A-1 packet (including observations for all of the procedures you did as well as all of the questions on pages 14 – 20) is due Monday. You don’t have to answer the observations for the parts that we did not do.

By the way, NOW is the time to study for your test! In addition to the lab safety packet, don’t forget to study all the lab apparatus – be able to identify it all and know what all the apparatus is used for (including the parts of the balance and the Bunsen burner). I’ll also ask you about safety control equipment and where it’s found in the lab. Also, make sure you can draw and label diagrams for filtering, boiling, evaporating, and heating intensely. Don’t forget the earlier posts/slide shows with that info. BTW – Here’s a review of the Bunsen burner and how to light it. All of these VERY helpful for the test!!

As for the skills you’ll need for the test, make sure you can measure volume, measure mass, and light a Bunsen burner. Good luck studying! You can do it!! I’ll be praying for you this weekend!

Chemistry 8-12-13 Lab Safety & Procedures

CHEMISTRY: Wow! Do you feel like you have information overload!? Here is the video on lab safety. It is a ton of info, and the thing is, you absolutely must know it – and not just for the test, but also throughout the year in lab.

Don’t forget to check your syllabus for what’s due when! Holler if you have questions about what to draw and what to print/read. Bunsen burner tomorrow!

(Girls – don’t forget closed toed shoes!)

Here’s something you might useful in the future…everything you wanted to know about a Bunsen burner and how to light it. 🙂

Chemistry 8-10-12 Lab Equipment

CHEMISTRY – Hey guys! You did a great job with the equipment today. Here is an overview of the apparatus you identified – things you’ll use in the chemistry lab. Click on the black arrow to start the slide show.

This would be a great way to study equipment for the test! You need to be able to identify the apparatus and also explain the use of each. These are also the items you’ll draw in your lab book for this coming Monday’s assignment on drawing lab apparatus. If I counted right, I think there are 35 of them. You may trace them from the packet or draw them free hand, but don’t forget the apparatus on the powerpoint are the ones you have to draw and know for the test.

And don’t forget to check your syllabus for tonight’s homework! Have a wonderful weekend!! 🙂

Chemistry Lab Safety Project

Hey guys – Good luck on finishing your lab safety project! If you have any questions, post them in the comments section below and I’ll comment back. Don’t forget that the project is due on Wednesday, no exceptions. If you can’t be here, make sure you have someone bring your project. Also, if you’ve lost your project sheet, you can find another copy of it up at the top under the Projects tab and in the section over on the bottom right – under “Good Stuff”, or on Edline. Make sure you check it very carefully to see that you’ve met all the requirements of the project! Have a great rest of the weekend!
