Day One DVD Worksheet
This week I struggled with memorizing all of my polyatomic ions and acids for the balancing equations quiz. I will overcome this by spending more time studying it.
This week, i struggled with catching up from the days i have missed class. I can overcome this by watching the chemistry videos and practicing more.
This week, I did well with understanding the homework. This is because I paid better attention in class and was able to refer to my notes whenever I was confused.
I give myself four stars this week because i think i have a pretty good understanding of stoichiometry. I have also kept up well in class.
This week I did well completing all my assignments for class because I prioritized school work over my other responsibilities and got it done quickly.
I did well completing all my homework assignments for class this week because I prioritized school work over my other responsibilities and got it done quickly.
I give myself a rating of 4 stars on the project so far. I have had to do things last minute, but I have managed to stay caught up so I am pleased.
I give myself 3 stars on the project right now. This is a fair rating for me because I am on the right track and keeping up with the due dates.
Presently, I give myself 3 stars on the lost project. This is a fair rating for me because I am on the right track and keeping up with the due dates.
1. How did chemistry grow you? What did you learn about yourself?
I realized that you cannot always get away with doing things last minute. I learned that I am not as great at application as I am at memorization.
2. What advice do you have for future chemistry students?
Do all your homework! It is good practice and an easy 100.
3. What could we have done differently this year that would have helped you learn chemistry better?
I think I would have had more success understanding chemistry if we followed the textbook in order because I would have a deeper understanding of what we were doing.
This week I did well on the online lab that we did. It challenged me at first but after I got the hang of it I understood what I was doing. This helped me apply it to what we were learning in class.
This week I struggled overall with my energy levels and completion of my assignments. More specifically I had an especially hard time with the pre-lab quiz, I did not prepare properly which caused me anxiety and this made it a slower process of completion. To combat this I am finishing my assignments immediately when they are given to me and then taking care of myself on my off time to ensure I can be the best student possible.
This week I struggled with checking the syllabus regularly. I overcame this by setting reminders on my phone and always keeping the syllabus tab open on my computer.
A recent article on Science News discusses how scientists are developing new materials for more efficient solar cells. Researchers are focusing on perovskite materials, which have shown promise in converting sunlight into electricity more effectively than traditional silicon-based cells. https://www.sciencenews.org/article/perovskite-solar-cells-materials-energy
https://www.sciencenews.org/article/us-empire-built-bird-dung
The article from Science News explores how the United States built an empire on bird dung, specifically guano, in the 19th century. Guano, rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, was highly sought after as a fertilizer. This demand led to the Guano Islands Act of 1856, which allowed the U.S. to claim uninhabited islands.
The United States used a lot of bird dung for fertilizer especially in guano which is rich in potassium nitrogen and phosphorus. Then the United States passed a law to claim un used land because of this
I rate my performance on the chapter 1 test a 3/5 stars because my grade wasn’t horrible, but it could have been better. If i had studied harder and longer then I know i would have done much better
Most meteoroids burn up in Earth’s atmosphere, creating shooting stars, and geological and atmospheric forces often erode impact craters. On the moon, there is no atmosphere to burn meteoroids nor weather to erode craters, so its surface remains covered with them. This explains why the moon’s craters and even astronauts’ footprints from over 50 years ago are still visible.

This week I did really well on learning how to balance formulas. I am definitely struggling with writing chemical formulas, but I am still super proud of myself for being able to understand balancing them. I look forward to practicing this weekend and hopefully getting it down.
Although itching feels good it is not good for you. Without medicine the itch with only get worse and could cause you to rip your skin and get bacteria into the wound.

This week I would rate myself about 3 stars I did not so good on my test and after getting it back and looking over it I realized that If I would have prepared myself like I needed to I could have done a lot better. This week also helped me see that the ways I’m studying need to be adjusted because it’s not really working for me!
This week. I think I definitely did really well on being able to focus and lock in in class in order to understand what we are learning after many tries of doing my homework and comparing it to my notes I was able to finally get the hang of it.
Giselle, a sixth-grade homeschooler in Palo Alto, Calif., discovered that short-chain fatty acids might influence the DCDC2 gene, important for language processing, by studying a similar gene in C. elegans worms. Her research earned her a finalist spot in the 2024 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge.

My rating this 9 weeks is a 3/5 stars. I blundered on my webpost a lot. However I did better on the test and I studied a lot more. Hopefully I do better next 9 weeks.
My rating on this 9 weeks would be 3/5 stars. I feel like I did well understanding the material however my problem would be applying it to test. This term has helped me realize that I need to completely change my studying tactics and ammount of time I study.
This week i struggled with getting up and doing my project when i need to. To overcome this i started to make time out of my day strictly for the project.
This week. I have really struggled on being able to really lock in on my project while also balancing other things. I have finally got everything all organized and I’m ready to work super hard over the weekend.
Logan Lee worked on helping lab-grown mosquitoes survive better to fight avian malaria. He did this by giving them microbes from wild mosquito habitats.

I did well this week in paying attention in class and taking notes on a new chapter. I did this because I need to finish out the year and do good in class.
I struggled with understanding and following the instructions on the Tech Assignment, so I reread everything carefully to get a better understanding of what to do.
Struggle- I struggled with the tech 101 assignment but I figured it out and did the jobs
Triumphed- I did well at taking notes and paying attention while taking notes.
Application- I have learned to listen clearly when someone is talking
Ask- How do you observe correctly in experiments. You observe correctly by not going of your opinions and using your senses. You also have to separate the 2 into qualitative or quantitative.
Reflection/Rate- Id rate myself 3 stars. I’ve listened to all the instructions and took good notes but did not complete some assignments on time.
Stem- “Vacation could provide teens time to practice independence”. Teenagers need to be free to find out who they are and find confidence. The loss of freedom causes mental health problems in teenagers and vacation can give more freedom. https://www.snexplores.org/article/teens-vacation-independence-parenting
Struggle- I struggled with the technology 101 assignment because I’m not the greatest with technology. I read the technology 101 very carefully and payed attention to every step.
Triumph- I did a great job of staying on top of things and not procrastinating. I did this because I want to start the year good with my grades.
Application- I have learned that listening in class is very important which carries over to my everyday life by teaching me that I need to listen to other people’s opinions and thoughts.
Ask- Why is it important for scientist to record and publish exactly how they conduct their experiments, even if the results seem like common sense? It’s important because by recording and publishing exactly how you conducted your experiment it allows for other scientist to replicate your experiment. To make sure the results are correct, and this method allows your experiment to tested and challenged.
Reflection/Rate- I would rate myself 4 stars this week because this week I have turned in all my assignments on time, taken notes during class, and limited procrastination.
STEM- I did “the mystery of melting sea stars may finally be solved” article where it talks about a mysterious disease that has been causing for stars to turn into a goo since 2013. The sunflower sea star has lost over 90% of its population because of this disease.
https://www.sciencenews.org/article/sea-star-wasting-mystery-solved-melting
I struggled this week with finding all the stuff on the chemistry website, because i never use any websites like this before for any other teacher. I have fixed this problem by scrolling around and learning what i need to know to be able to navigate the website.
I did my FSS well because when I had a question I looked at my notes to help and understand how to get myself the correct answer.
This week I felt like I did well at taking notes and using them to answer my own questions and help me further my education. I did this because chemistry is going to take a lot of effort and I need to be prepared
This week i did well in making my note cards and using them to study for the quiz. I need to be able to make a study tool that will help me for future quizzes.
Technology has found a way to use lasers to “listen” to viruses. This can help to identify viruses with the vibrations they make allowing another new way of classification.

I would rate this week a 3 out of 5 because I have now started to adjust to tye amount of homework and have used my time wisely as I have wanted to. But, there is still room for improvement.
I would rate the week 3/5 because now I’m starting to get used to the way Chemistry works and how to follow directions correctly. I’m more used to checking my syllabus everyday now. Further on, I hope to be able to get more into the flow of how class works.
Overall i would probably rate this week a 3 out of five. I did not do my homework correctly at first but then figured it out. I hope to keep improving as time goes on.
I saw my test grade and realized i struggled on how to answer and show work so to fix this I will learn to read questions properly and to show the information I have retained in my head.
I struggled with the test questions. I realized that I need to study a lot more for the tests and prepare myself better.
i stuggled with showing my work in the correct way on the test. To improve this i will practice the problems more frequently until i master them.
