Physics 11-2-22 Friction on Inclines

PHYSICS: Who knew snow skiing could be so complicated! Well…friction problems on an incline anyway. Here’s our discussion of friction problems on an incline.

Remember, drawing the diagram is super, super important. Label all the forces and apply the concepts you know about net forces and resultant forces – let it tell you a story. 🙂

  1. There is a new project to figure out what long COVID is and who all is at risk. Long COVID is a study discussing people who were infected with a certain strand of the virus and have never fully recovered since. Macon Morehouse, a Science News’ news director along with many others is donating her blood, saliva, and time to help researches try and identify long COVID and its victims.

  2. I read about the purple splotches on the ceilings in Spain’s hilltop Alhambra palace. When built, the ceilings were built with a really thin layer of gold on them, so as it aged and decayed little “golden circles” formed. This corroded because it wasn’t just a layer of gold, it was a gold-silver-alloy mixture which allowed corrosion to happen. This allowed the different parts of the gold to be exposed to different oxygen concentrations which created the purple color on the ceiling.

  5. There is an iceberg that broke off of Antartica that is about the size of Delaware. The iceberg broke off a few years ago and scientist have been watching it as it travels and is documenting the changes in size and shape. The size has decreased and it has continued to break apart. They noticed the more it has been pulled by the currents the more it has broken. They stated that the more icebergs melt, the bigger the source of freshwater to the ocean.
