Chemistry 10-18-22 Classification of Matter

CHEMISTRY: Here’s a mixture that looks like it might be worth investigating – bacon caramel popcorn! I mean, I like bacon and I like caramel popcorn, but bacon caramel popcorn? Hmmmm….

So now that you know about mixtures, could you figure out how to separate one? Keep these notes handy!

Hon Chemistry 10-12-22 Wednesday’s Class

HON CHEMISTRY – Did the PSAT fry your brain? Here’s what we are doing in class today:

1) Complete the TPC activity: States of Matter
2) Research Cu, Si and P.

Some good info on Cu, Si and P can be found in your textbook at the very end of chapter 1. Another great resource to research the elements Cu, Si and P (for the TEST!!) are these video clips on copper, phosphorus, and silicon that a group of chemistry researchers have put together at www.periodicvideos.com. If you can’t get the P video to open, watch it here YouTube – Phosphorus – PT Video. Watch these and take notes. The information on these video clips will be on the test.

Hey, have you had a chance to check out the chapter 1 study suggestion sheet? (And you’re still learning the symbols of the elements, right?!?)
🙂

Chemistry 10-11-22 Energy & Changes

CHEMISTRY: Great discussion today of how energy in involved in physical changes and chemical changes. Applications, applications! Make sure you can apply what you learned today.

To sign up for The Physics Classroom, here are the correct class codes below. Do this assignment for HW tonight, “Which One Doesn’t Belong: Chemical & Physical Changes”
Chemistry 1 – ncschemistry12022
Chemistry 2 – ncschemistry22022
Chemistry 4 – ncschemistry42022
Chemistry 7 – ncschemistry72022

Hon Chemistry 10-11-22 Elements & Intro to the Periodic Table

HON CHEMISTRY – Wow! Do you realize what we just did?!? We finished the chapter!!! Did you feel like today was mostly review?

Hey, have you had a chance to check out the chapter 1 study suggestion sheet? Let me know if there is anything you need help with before the test! (And you’re still learning the symbols of the elements, right?!?)
🙂

Chemistry 10-5-22 Changes in State and Chemical Properties & Changes

CHEMISTRY: So how do you know if something is a physical or a chemical change? Applications, applications! Make sure you can apply what you learned today.

Don’t forget that we will do the thLab: Candle Observation in class tomorrow. Make sure you get a printed copy!

Physics 10-5-22 More Angular Projectiles & the Monkey-Hunter Problem

PHYSICS – Great job today working through the monkey-hunter problem! Here’s our look at some conceptual questions and then our work on the monkey-hunter problem. Below that is our help session from Wednesday morning – #62b & c and #5 from the worksheet. Below that is an old vodcast I found with #44 plane with head wind and #7 torpedo and target from the worksheet.

Do the problems make more sense now? God bless you as you prepare for your test. Practice, practice, practice! You can do it! I believe in you!!

If you need some inspiration – here are links to some Monkey-Hunter videos

Hon Chemistry 10-5-22 Classification of Matter

HON CHEMISTRY: Happy Wednesday! Great job today on asking questions to classify matter! How are you doing on the examples of homogeneous and heterogeneous matter? Here’s a question to think about again, can you tell me three different types of homogeneous matter?

And no, this isn’t part of a moonshine still, but it is copper and I thought it looked kind of cool! Speaking of….why do you think they use copper coil in stills??

Chemistry 10-4-22 Intro to Chemistry

CHEMISTRY: We’re finally starting what chemistry is all about! Here’s the lesson from Tuesday. Can you apply the branches of chemistry and types of scientific work? As you go through the chapter, make sure you have the vocab down, and be sure you’re able to apply what you learned each day!

Now….how would you describe the intensive and extensive properties of this copper ore? Hmmm….
