Hon Chemistry 8-25-22 Conversion Factors

HON CHEMISTRY: Can estimate out how fast you can drive in at least one parking lot in Guatemala – and can you show me how you solved the problem? Even better, can I trust the validity of your work?

Good job on remembering how to use conversion factors! Remember, this isn’t just about getting an answer – some of you can do that in your head. This is about being able to convert from one unit to another using the Q-formula. (And yes, you have to do it that way!)

Hon Chemistry 8-23-22 Calculating with Sig Figs & Scientific Notation

Hon Chemistry: Today we wrapped up the discussion of sig figs – using them in calculations. How are you doing with them? Tomorrow let’s apply what you’ve learned! Good times!!

What about that SI Quiz tomorrow? Make sure you are actively studying these things:
Everything in the SI Prefixes chart: symbol, exponent, meaning, and how many in one of a larger one. For example, 1 L is how many cL?
SI fundamental and derived quantities and their symbols
SI fundamental and derived units, their symbols, and the quantity they measure
SI standard unit for all the quantities

Physics 8-22-22 Ch 1 Homework Review and Graphs

PHYSICS: Great review of the homework from this chapter. May seem trivial now, but oh my how you’ll apply all of this for the rest of the year!

Speaking of applying – how high do you reckon that golf ball will bounce?

BAD NEWS: Audio from today didn’t work. SO- I’m posting a look from another year at the same homework. Not all the info on this vodcast will be relevant, but at least you can hear us go over the homework questions. If you need the info on Exel graphs – whether or not yours is a good one, come by and see me.

Chemistry 8-22-22 Significant Figures in Calculations

CHEMISTRY: Great job today using sig figs in calculations! Here’s our look the last of the notes on using significant figures. Super important – especially the examples that we did together in class.

SI QUIZ:Another great thing we did today was go over the format of the SI Quiz and give some examples of questions that you’ll see on Wednesday. This is VERY helpful, especially if you weren’t in class today!!

Chemistry 8-19-22 Accuracy & Precision

CHEMISTRY: I LOVE the way you are remembering and catching on to accuracy, precision & uncertainty!

Super important – keep up with your homework!! The reason I give it to you so you can practice and put together all we talked about in class ….cuz I love you! 🙂

What about that SI Quiz on Wednesday? Make sure you are actively studying these things:
Everything in the SI Prefixes chart: symbol, exponent, meaning, and how many in one of a larger one. For example, 1 L is how many cL?
SI fundamental and derived quantities and their symbols
SI fundamental and derived units, their symbols, and the quantity they measure
SI standard unit for all the quantities

Hon Chemistry 8-20-22 Accuracy/Precision & Significant Figures

HON CHEMISTRY: Great week! And great job today remembering significant figures! Now can you go forth and apply the rules?

Speaking of remembering – how about that SI Quiz? Make sure you are actively studying these things:

Everything in the SI Prefixes chart: symbol, exponent, meaning, and how many in one of a larger one. For example, 1 L is how many cL?
SI fundamental and derived quantities and their symbols
SI fundamental and derived units, their symbols, and the quantity they measure
SI standard unit for all the quantities

Chemistry & Hon Chemistry 8-18-22 Derived Units & SI Measurements, Pt 2

CHEMISTRY: Great job with derived units and fine tuning how to properly write measurements so they’ll be easily read and understood! Now on to using what you know!!

HW INFORMATION: Your homework for tonight is the cLAB: The Physics Aviary Measuring Games. Get that handout here under the Worksheet/Handouts tab. Read the sheet carefully to see how you are going to turn in the assignment. Important: taking a screenshot is NOT taking a picture of the computer screen with your phone. That kind of screenshot is never accepted.

BTW – How are you doing with getting ready for the QUIZ on SI prefixes, Quantities & Units? It’s a ton of important info to know for the rest of the year. Practice, practice, practice it and don’t wait until the last minute!!

Hon Chemistry 8-17-22 SI Measurements

HON CHEMISTRY – Great job today! So is all the info on SI measurements starting to come back to you? Here’s the lecture from today – our discussion of fundamental and derived units. I’m sure it’s mostly review from your physical science days, but it’s a great opportunity to refresh what you’ve learned and to get ready to begin using it!

Did you remember the prefixes and units? Start work on memorizing them NOW – SI quantities, units, and SI prefixes. For the prefixes, also make sure that you can tell me how many of something in the larger one. (That’s what I explained in class.)
