Chemistry 1-19-22 Chapter 7 Test Overview

CHEMISTRY: God bless you as you study! Here’s our great overview of the test from today and a look at some chemical names and formulas and oxidation numbers. Did you find the Chapter 7 Stuff to Know sheet? Be sure and use it as a road map for your studying. I know it seems like a lot, but you can do it!

First priority – make sure that you have memorized EVERYTHING. Then, practice!!! Go to the Physics Classroom as a guest, sciencegeek.net and make sure you can write and name chemical formulas. Practice, practice, practice!!! Then start practicing the different kinds of problems – do at least three of each one of them. And also try those on sciencegeek.net. That’s always some good practice. And don’t forget about polymers!

HELP SESSION Thursday morning, 7:30 AM.

I’ll be praying for you! You can do it!!

Chemistry 1-18-22 Polymers

CHEMISTRY: We finally finished the chapter! Did you realize molecules could be that large? And so many of them. But don’t you think polymers are cool? Here’s the lecture for Tuesday.

UPDATE: Test has been changed to THIS Thursday. Help session Thursday morning, 7:30 AM.

Some items for contemplation: why are certain plastics recyclable and others not…and what about dishwasher and microwave safe? Hmmmmm…

Hon Chemistry 1-14-22 Chap 8 Overview

HON CHEMISTRY: God bless you as you prepare for your test!! Here’s our review from today. You’re doing great on these chemical reactions! Practice, practice, practice (!!!) and also make sure you have everything memorized.

A good source of help is your online textbook at my.hrw.com. Click on the “Visual Concepts” or “Review Activities” tabs at the top of the chapter page for the extra tutorials and quizes. Also, the review activities on The Physics Classroom and sciencegeek.net would be great practice as well. I love you and I’ll be praying for you as you study for your test!!

Chemistry 1-13-22 Chapter 7 Problems Practice

CHEMISTRY: Great job today looking back the problems from chapter 7. Today we reviewed molecular and empirical formulas, percent composition, and mole problems. Did you remember how to do them? We also took a quick look back at naming chemical formulas. Be sure and practice, practice, practice it all for the test!

Speaking of which, have you looked at the Chapter 7 Stuff to Know Sheet? Good stuff there!

Physics 1-12-22 Collisions Problems Review 2

PHYSICS: Great job with some of the more advanced momentum and energy problems! Here’s a look at the student in the middle of a frozen pond, bird on the wire, car crash with coefficient of friction, and the billiard balls.

Ready for the test? Take another look at some of the concepts!

Chemistry 1-12-22 Molecular Formulas

CHEMISTRY: Hey guys! Awesome job with empirical formulas, and now you’ve conquered writing molecular formulas! Here’s the lecture from Wednesday. It’s just like writing empirical formulas but with a twist at the end!

HW UPDATE: All the rest of the homework that was for Tuesday is now due Friday. The homework that is on the syllabus for Thursday (the five extra problems) is changed for now and will be due next week.

Have you started preparing for the test? It will be over ALL of chapter – plus the small bit from chapter 3. Be sure and checked out the Stuff to Know sheet for all of chapter 7 under the Test Info tab!

Hon Chemistry 1-12-22 Double Replacement & Combustion Reactions

HON CHEMISTRY: You realize what we did? We finished all 17 types of reactions today!

Are you working on memorizing all 17 types of reactions?! But don’t just memorize them. Make sure you can apply them as well. When you start to work any equation, first determine what type of reaction it is, then figure out what rule applies and follow it to determine the products. I believe in you! You can do it!! (and yes, I realize I am repeating myself, but I do and you can!)

Chemistry 1-11-22 Empirical Formulas

CHEMISTRY: So, would you like to be Greg on CSI? Great work with empirical formulas today!

The hardest part is that it’s not a set formula for you to plug and play, but if you’ll keep in mind that you’re really just looking for subscripts which are just moles, you’ll be able to think it through. Percent to mass, mass to moles, moles to smallest whole number ratio.

Let’s crank it up a notch tomorrow! 🙂

Physics 1-11-22 Collisions Problems with Energy & Bouncing

PHYSICS: Great job on the problems so far!! Here’s our look how kinetic and potential energy get involved – dart in the block of wood and the bird on the swing. This cute little bird isn’t on a swing, but he is one I came beak to nose with on a mission trip to Costa Rica!

What about even more practical applications? Hmmmm…..

Chemistry 1-10-22 Percent Composition

CHEMISTRY: Great job today! Way to apply chemistry to your everyday life!!

I think you’ll find that percent composition problems are super easy to catch on to. First, though, be sure you know which “type” of percent composition you’re trying to fine. Also make sure you can write chemical formulas (I won’t give them to you!) and that you’ve memorized the formulas for acids and those chemical names and formulas for common substances. It’s just plug and play from there! 🙂
