Chemistry 10-29-20 Fundamental Science Skills Graphing Activity

Quick – list 10 things you remember from the 8th grade about interpreting and reading graphs! Not to worry – today you’re going to begin reviewing those important concepts and techniques. Here is your assignment for today, Thursday:

IMPORTANT: Today’s assignment is one that you will have to complete at school. The program is on the school laptops and on the computers in the computer lab.

  1. Find the “Fundamental Science Skills” program on your computer.
  2. In the Graphing Skills section, click on “Graphing Data Points.” Read through and practice in each section VERY CAREFULLY!
  3. After you have completed each review section, go to the exam and complete it.
    • You must enter your name in the exact format you do when you title a lab – including the title of the activity.
    • Click on “Check Your Answers.” When you have 100% accuracy, bring your lap top to me to check your Check Answers Results Sheet. If you are doing the assignment outside of our class period, print off your exam results sheet and bring it to me to check.
    • IMPORTANT: Your answers and the format of it all must match exactly to receive credit. (Sometimes being exactly correct is extremely important!)
  4. The Graphing Data Points assignment is due by the end of the class period today.
  5. When you finish, next go to the Worksheet Tab and begin Graphing Exercises 2.

Holler if you have any questions!

  1. 1. The x function/axis lays horizontally
    2. The y function/axis lays vertically
    3. Different graphs count by different numbers (count by 1, 2, 3, etc.)
    4. Usually the year/date of some sort goes along the y function (axis)
    5. Information like numbers and data are usually along the x axis
    6. There are different types of graphs according to the way the shape of the line turns out
    8. There are many different shapes that a graph can be like quadratic, cubic, etc.
    9. You can have line graphs, scatter plots, bar graphs, etc.
    10. There are usually titles for graphs

  2. I would rate my test performance a 3/5 my test grade was still bad. But my test score improved so I’m on the right track but I have to improve my test taking skills along with studying for test.

  3. I would rate myself a 2/5 in chemistry this week. I did not do good on my chapter 1 test. For the next test I am going to study differently and study longer than I did for the last test.

  4. On my test I would rate myself a 7/10. I definitely could have done better and I will mix up my studying strategy by readying my notes over the week and reviewing
    the vod casts as well

  5. I would rate myself a 3/5 for chem this week. My test grade was not what I expected but I was paying attention well in class. I also thought I did well on the lab. For the next test I will look over my notes more instead of just the pretest and review questions from the book.

  6. I would rate myself 3.5/5 stars. I did well on the chapter 1 test, but I know I could have done better. I had a couple of careless mistakes, but the majority of the questions I missed were ones that I hadn’t prepared enough for. I am going to keep the same study tactics I used for this text for the next test, but I need to be sure to review all of my notes in depth.

  7. I rate myself a 4/5 on my test performance because of the careless mistakes, and also because I just did not know some of the information. One thing that I will improve on for the next test is to be sure to copy every example application problem that you give in class in my notes.

  8. I rate myself a 3.5 out of 5 this week for the test. I did better than I had thought but I could have done much better with my studying and preparing. I could improve for the test by changing the way I do notes. Also I will improve by studying with more application questions than memorization.

  9. I rate myself a 4.5/5 on the Chapter 1 Test. I was very satisfied with my score. I did very well on multiple choice, but one thing I need to focus on is explaining in more detail on the discussion questions. Before the next test, I will practice writing answers for different discussion questions to improve this skill.

  10. I rate myself a 3/5 on the test because I wanted to make an 85. I need to be better at my labs by making sure to double check to make sure I have put the most complete answers I could.

  11. I rate myself about a 3/5 on the test. I honestly did better than I expected. I will change a little about how I take my notes due to the fact of to many easy multiple-choice questions missed. I will also continue the way I have been studying becuase it has helped.

  12. I would rate my performance on the chapter 1 test a 4/5. I thought I did as well as I could’ve done on the test in terms of score but I did make a few careless mistakes that I shouldn’t have.

  13. I would rate myself a 4/5 on the test. I did well on the test, but my studying was a little bit rushed. I was better than I had been in the past about spreading my studying over the course of days, but the bulk of my studying still came at the end. This caused me to still feel overwhelmed so I need to instead make sure I split up the information as evenly as possible across the multiple days that I study.

  14. I would rate myself a 3/5 this week. I did better than I thought on the test but I still didn’t do as well as I would have liked. I will try a new way of studying and taking notes in order to do better next time.

  15. I would rate myself a 3/5 this week. I never got my score back but I did feel like I could do better. The test had a lot of content and there was a lot to study for. Next time we have a test I will start to study the earlier in the week or before.

  16. Rate and Reflect: I would rate myself a 2/5 this week. I didn’t do the best on the test. I will try a different study method next time.

  17. I would rate myself 3.5/5 because this was one of my better tests in this class but I still think I could’ve done better by spreading out my studying sessions.

  18. Sorry about my last post, I rate myself a 3/5 on the test. I could have done better but I am kind of happy with myself. I need to study harder and longer.

  19. i will give myself a 3/5 this week. i did pretty good on the test but i could’ve dont better if i had prepared more.

  20. I would rate myself a 3.5/5 because I think I did pretty good on my test but I could still have done better. I did really good on the element part though.

  21. I would rate myself a 4/5. I’m happy with how I did on my test, but there are still things I need to work on such as application questions and doing more practice problems.

  22. I rate myself a 4/5 for the Chapter 1 test. I did well, but I could have studied more and begun studying earlier. Next time we have a test I will make a study schedule so that it is evenly spread out over several days instead of two or three.

  23. I would rate myself a 4/5 on my Chapter 1 test. I got a great grade, however it could be raised by not, in some cases carelessly, missing some multiple choice questions. To get a better grade, I will prepare myself for potential discussion questions, study the book a little longer, and look over my notes to make sure I completely understand the lesson/materials being taught

  24. I would rate myself 4.5/5 I felt like I did a very good job of preparing for my Chapter 1 test, however there were very few places that could’ve been patched up if I had better analyzed my notes to ensure I had all the information I needed. Next time I will continue studying how I studied previously plus reading the book more to ensure I haven’t missed anything in my notes as well as to take my time on the future discussion questions to really analyze them thoroughly so that I can give a full complete answer.

  25. I would rate myself 4/5 this week because I did good on my test. I should of made less careless mistakes, next time I’ll look at the question closer.

  26. This week, I would rate myself a 3.5/5. I did well on the test, but I could’ve have made a higher grade if I didn’t make careless mistakes. Next time, I will make sure that I carefully and thoroughly read each question and pay close attention while double checking my answers. I am going to repeat the way I am taking notes because I knew all of the information on the test, but I need to work on not overloading myself the night before the test.
