  1. The team at Delta University of Technology is working to create an internet that is unhackable. This is based on quantum technology. The technology is called entanglement which is quantum behavior of atomic particles. The team has tested the distance of entanglement particles, and it travels 1.5 km. The network that travels longer than 1.5 km must have quantum repeaters which is currently being designed. The team is working to finish the network in the next five to six years.

  2. Scientists have very recently discovered that a specific type of water beetle, when devoured by a frog, can find its way out by crawling through the frog’s organs. This kind of beetle has survival skills when it comes to aquatic environments, so one is able to survive a six hour journey through the frog’s throat, stomach, and intestines.

  4. Scientists have discovered that by using a device called a shadow-effect energy generator, energy can be harvested easily anywhere on earth, as long as you have sunlight and a shadow. This device collects enough energy to run an electric device.

  5. A team from the University of New South Wales in Australia has developed a quantum chip that can run in warmer conditions. This is very important because most quantum computers have to run in temperatures of a fraction of deghrese above absolute zero for them to run correctly. Warmer temperatures will allow for more powerful quantum computers.

  6. A research team is trying to figure out how to control locust swarm and why they form such big groups. A locust swarm the size of the city of Rome, Italy can eat as much food as 51 million humans which is roughly the entire population of Kenya.

  7. a scientist has found extremely rare and highly priced diamonds 700 kilometers in the planet. the amount of carbon circulating in the earths crust dictates how big the diamond can get. and how far deep it is determined how rare it is.

  8. Californa health officials are trying to figure out what will happen to the lungs of the people who are breathing in the smoke during the wild fires. They believe the emergency rooms will be filled with people who have breathing problems. They said that if they have ventilation in their homes they should turn the air on to recirulate their homes to use the air filters to have somewhat clean air.

  9. Astronomers have seen a signal in clouds on Venus. This could mean that there could be some sort of life on Venus that no one knows about. If there is aliens or other creatures on Venus what would they look like? They could look like E.T or a Gremlin. You can imagine what they look like on your own.

  10. Scientists have found that wildfires produce particles harmful enough to greatly affect our health. The smoke is similar to cigarette smoke but with out the nicotine. These particles are known as PM 2.5. They are fine particulate matter that are so small you can’t see them. PM 2.5 particles are common in air pollution. The particles are so harmful that they can greatly affect your lungs and seep into your bloodstream.

  11. Stem is a major part of chemistry. Each part of stem is used. Right now we are learning a lot about the math part of stem because we are using conversion factors.

  12. Siesmologists are beginning to reuse the technique of seismic ocean therapy to track the temperature of the ocean through the speed of sound in seawater. This technique, originally used in 1979 by oceanographers Carl Wunsch and Walter Munk, tracks the vibrations of water molecules through long distances to determine the temperature of the water.

  13. For solar panels cells two layers are theoretically better than one for efficiency and cost since one layer is about 11% to 20% while two layers is 34%. They use math to find which is more efficient and which is more cost efficient by keeping the electrical and optical aspects equal.

  14. Scientists have discovered that if bacteria stick together, they can survive for years in space. When grouped into a ball, the outer microbes died and protected the inner ones from the environment for three years.

  15. Some scientists have discovered a rare molecule on the clouds of venus. They suspect that this molecule could point to some type of extra-terrestrial life since this molecule exists on earth.

  16. Scientists have found that American are no where near to Covid 19 immunity. Donated blood was tested from over 1 million Americans, and only 1.82% had the antibodies, which shows many Americans have yet to even get the virus.

  17. In Georgia summer camps had to end due to the large outbreak of Covid. In Maine they wanted to have summer camps so they inforced many important rules of mask, testing, isolation, social distance, and most importantly social bubbles. Social bubbles are used to keep only small groups of people together at all time so in the case someone gets sick only that “bubble” has to isolate.

  18. In science astronomers found a particular molecule on Venus. The molecule they found was phosphine. What makes this even more interesting is that the molecule is made by microbes that exist in oxygen free environments.

  19. Interestingly, scientists have began to set their eyes on an other worldly trip to Mars, and they have identified many hurdles, like radiation and bodily fluids gravitating upwards, that they will have to jump over to be successful. They have also started the research and development phase on some inventions to be used on this interstellar trip. Some of these inventions include, an artificial gravity suit and a human centrifuge, and they have shown some positive results already!

  20. For my SITN article I chose a rest about anglerfish “fusing” with their mates. In the article the author explains how some anglerfish experience loss of immunity through the process of fusing.

  21. Research shows that some bacteria can stay in space if they are together for multiple years. A swarm of desert locusts can eat as much food as 51 million people in a day.

  22. Scientists found that wildfires produce harmful particles that can greatly affect our health. It similar to cigarette smoke with no nicotine. These particles are called PM 2.5. They are commonly found in air pollution and they are so harmful that they can slip into your bloodstream.

  23. Research on a vaccine for SARS-CoV-2 by La Jolla Institute for immunology has done some research on why older people are more susceptible to the virus. The innate immune system first launches a broad and unspecific attack against the infection. The immune system sends out molecules that incite inflammation and signal the presence of a pathogen. This is where people with a more adaptive immune system fare better, and because people over the age of 65 have a poorer immune system, immune response is delayed and insignificant.

  24. Scientists find ‘secret molecule’ that allows bacteria to exhale electricity. The soil bacteria breathe through giant snorkels, called a nanowire, made of special conductive protein which are 100,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair. They are capable of shuttling electrons hundreds to thousands of times the length of an individual geobacter microbes body.

  25. Scientists have discovered the deepest point on land. It is under the Denman glacier in East Antarctica. The trough is 3.5km below sea level but instead of water, it is completely filled with ice flowing from the glacier to the coast. The trough is 100km long and 20km wide.

  26. Scientist said they will send a Robot called Dragonfly in 2026 to land on Titan, Saturn’s largest moon. They will send this robot to look for any signs of life since any human won’t be able.

  27. Physicists cooled a nanoparticle to the lowest temperature allowed by quantum mechanics. The particle’s motion reached what’s known as the ground state, or lowest possible energy level.

  28. Scientists have discovered clumps of bacteria sitting on the outside of the international space station . These clumps have been able to survive the hazards if space by only themselves . Researchers believe these clumps may be able to survive a trip from earth to Mars.

  29. There has been some recent findings indicating that there may be life on Venus. Also, our government spoke with Japan about UFOs and Japan is starting a program to actively track UFOs

  30. The Langsdorffia hypogea is a vampire plant. Its a vampire plant since its a parasite and sucks the nutrition out of other plants. the flowers of L. hypogea are a bright red in Central and South America during dry season, when it blooms.

  31. Scientists have come up with four Maine reasons for the terrible wild fires in California this year. The four reasons are the changing climate, people, Fire suppression, The Santa Ana winds. Change in climate is due to the lack of rainfall during the summer season. Even if the conditions are right for a wildfire, you still need something or someone to ignite it such as a human. The history of suppressing fires has made current day fires worse. The Santa Ana winds are strong gusts that bring dry air from the Great Basin area of the West into Southern California this will happen soon as it does every fall.

  32. Infectious diseases experts worry about a conjunction of influenza and coronavirus for multiple reasons, beyond overburdened health systems. Teasing out whether a person has flu or coronavirus — which have very similar symptoms — will require testing for both viruses, at a time when turnaround for COVID-19 tests is often slow. And some people may get infected with multiple viruses simultaneously, which could make symptoms more severe.
