Chemistry 8-25-20 Fundamental & Derived Units, Pt. 2

CHEMISTRY: Great job with derived units and fine tuning how to properly writing measurements so they’ll be easily read and understood! Now on to using what you know!!

BTW – How are you doing with getting ready for the QUIZ on SI prefixes, Quantities & Units? It’s a ton of important info to know for the rest of the year. Practice, practice, practice it and don’t wait until the last minute!!

If you’re unsure of what’s going to be on the quiz or how I’ll ask the questions, go back and watch the last couple of days vodcasts. Here are the topics for the SI Quiz on Thursday:

Everything in the SI Prefixes chart: symbol, exponent, meaning, and how many in one of a larger one. For example, 1 L is how many cL?
SI fundamental and derived quantities and their symbols
SI fundamental and derived units, their symbols, and the quantity they measure
SI standard unit for all the quantities

Hon Chemistry 8-21-20 SI Measurements

HON CHEMISTRY – Great job today! So is all the info on SI measurements starting to come back to you? Here’s the lecture from today – our discussion of fundamental and derived units. I’m sure it’s mostly review from your physical science days, but it’s a great opportunity to refresh what you’ve learned and to get ready to begin using it!

Did you remember the prefixes and units? Start work on memorizing them NOW – SI quantities, units, and SI prefixes. For the prefixes, also make sure that you can tell me how many of something in the larger one. (That’s what I explained in class.) The quiz on them will be Thursday, August 27.

Hon Chemistry 8-19-20 Wrap up of the Scientific Method

HON CHEMISTRY – Great wrap up of the scientific method today! I loved how you were able to apply what you knew about controlled experiments to Question 5 from the homework! Great practice for the test!

Speaking of using the scientific method, tomorrow you’ll be using what you know to explore Oobleck! Make sure you print and read the Oobleck lab sheet and bring it to class Thursday. If you can’t print, be sure and write all the questions down on notebook paper so you’ll be ready to answer them. This is your only homework for Wednesday night.

Don’t forget that we’ve moved everything on the syllabus back a day. That means what’s on the syllabus for Thursday is now moved to Friday and what’s on the syllabus for Friday is now moved to Monday. Watch the beginning of the vodcast below for more information.

Hon Chemistry 8-18-20 Using the Scientific Method

HON CHEMISTRY – Great beginning review today of the scientific method! I know you’ve heard it for umpteen years, but it is super important that you can APPLY what you’ve learned about the scientific method.

Any questions about homework? The work from the textbook can be done with the online textbook. Follow the notes I gave you in class. Do it on notebook paper, and you can use the back of the paper. Just make sure you number listing down and not across – especially if there are a, b, etc., parts – list those down on separate lines, not across the same line. Also, skip a line between each question.

Tomorrow lets finish up talking about using the scientific method. Don’t forget, we’ve move the Oobleck Activity to Thursday. Fun times!! 🙂

So do animals use the scientific method? Hmmm…..

CHEMISTRY – Who would have thought there was so much to consider when you’re taking notes?! Important stuff though!

Chemistry 8-17-20 Google Drive Check & Web Post Comments

Happy Monday! Here’s our discussion from today on how to do weekly web post comments. If you need more info, scroll down to the post I’ve written for you on “Web Post Comments & Ideas.”

Today we also talked about doing a final check of your Google Drive. Have you double checked your Google Drive to make sure all the assignments you have there are correct? Here’s the discussion from today where we went over each individual assignment so that you can check what you have to make sure that it matches.

Here’s a quick list of things to double check. Go back and watch the vodcast if you have questions. And text me if you have trouble!

1) Is is a PDF? Check to make sure it has the PDF symbol. Remember that when you download a doc as a PDF, you have to go back in and upload the new PDF to your Google Drive. It does not do that step automatically.

2) Does it have the correct title? After the class period and your name, make sure you have the correct title of the assignment.

3) Does it meet the requirements of the assignment? For example, does it have all the parts that it is supposed to have?
