Physics 9-11-19 Chapter 2 Concepts, Rockets & Splash

PHYSICS: Test tomorrow! You can do this!! First here’s the conceptual review we did today, bumblebees, etc. Hope Joy, at the end I put a quick overview of the test for you because I forgot to start recording at the beginning.

Below today’s lesson is an old vodcast of one of the rocket problems. I didn’t have the mic on for the help session today, but I found an old one that might be helpful. It also has a complete look at #47, the mountain climber and the single splash (very key part to that problem!).

Are you becoming more comfortable with working problems? When selecting formulas, it’s always a good idea to ask yourself “Why?”. Why can you use this formula? Why is it legit? Why is it the best one? Is there a better route to the solution? And then, continue to practice them over and over til it starts to become second nature!

God bless you as you prepare for the test! I’m praying for you!!!

  1. This week, I rate myself a 3/5. It was super hectic, and I felt very underprepared most of the time. I could have studied for my test more efficiently, or ever I could have started earlier. I was slacking in assignments. I let myself get distracted by fundraising and golf. On a positive note, I did study, and I feel like I did fine on the test, as long as I didn’t make carelss mistakes (which I always do, but atleast I understand the concepts)!

  2. This week was a 4/5 for me. While I studied hard and think I did well on the test, my sleep was not balanced well. My classes did not receive equal attention. However, I am very happy about the test! Ready to sleep too

  3. This week was a 3/5 for me. Physics has torn a fat hole in my sleep schedule and I’m struggling to stay awake. I’ve found some ways around it though. The test was alright. I’m not sure I did super well, but time management was on point. Hoping to get some sleep this weekend.

  4. This week I would rate myself a 4/5. I studied pretty hard, and for the most part, it paid off. The only downside is that my study time cut into my sleep time. I learned how to do the problems pretty well, but my time for finishing the problems is too long. Now that I have gotten my accuracy pretty high, I need to work on speed. I’ll work for that next week!

  5. I rate myself a 3/5 this week. I finished all my labs and homework on time and didn’t have to stay up to late. I did just mediocre on the test and I didnt finish one of the problems even though I knew how to do it which is a bummer. I also feel like I could have studied a little harder for the test. I hope with more practice in will get faster at physics problems.

  6. This week was pretty stressful! However, I’m understanding the concepts pretty well and I worked tons of problems to study! I’m pretty proud of myself considering two days ago I was still struggling to get problems correct. I put in so much effort for the test and even if I don’t do well, I’ll still be learning!

  7. This week I rate myself a 4/5. I waited until the last night to study for the test which caused me a great deal of anxiety the day of the test. However, I do not think I missed any questions unless there was a silly mistake that I did not catch. I honestly got extremely lucky that my procrastination did not hurt my test performance. Also, I made up my lab in a timely manner. My goal going forward is to study in small quantities over a wider range of days to reduce stress and obtain more sleep. This first test served both as an encourager for my abilities because I performed well and as an eye-opener to diminish procrastination. I hope this lesson will sink in.

  8. This week I rate myself a 4/5. I’m kind of bummed that I got sick and have to make up the test. I’m hoping to use this time to perfect my process of working problems and to increase my speed. I am starting to get more confident in my ability to complete problems instead of looking at them and getting stressed out.

  9. This week I rate myself a 1/5.
It seems contradictory, but my fear of failure had somehow convinced me to stop trying, as if failure by inactivity was any better than failure by inability. I know that some work is better than none, on a logical level, but I’m struggling to make my brain cooperate with me. (Even though I am my brain…. ??? It sounds confusing but it makes sense… in my brain…)
Unfunny jokes aside: I’m seeking help for my ADD and depression, and hopefully my doctor has some insight on how I can help myself better than I am now.
“Putting my mind to it” is easier said than done, but I won’t back down from this challenge.

  10. This week was an entire struggle until the end. Surprisingly I did well on the test. I need to get better at understanding concepts. I’ve also been sick all week so that’s annoying.

  11. Honestly, I can barely remember this week so I am struggling to rate it right now. I definitely should have studied more for the test, as I crammed it all in the night before which caused me to lose a lot of sleep. However, I can justify that because I did not get home until 9:30 the night before because of a soccer game. Still, that doesn’t excuse bad time management and procrastination. On a positive note, I got an answer for every problem on the test which is definitely a high note!!!! I still need to improve and make sure I can work all of them without help, not just some. Advice to my future self: make sure you learn the problems as you are being taught them so you don’t have to relearn them the night before a test!!

  12. I would rate myself a 3/5 this week. I’m disappointed after I got my test back because I know I could of done better. I made a lot of little mistakes that I should not have done. However, this week we started going over vectors which aren’t too bad so that is a plus. We also did a fun lab today so in summary this week ended pretty well. Next week, I plan to keep up my work habits and stay focused.

  13. This week was tough. I’ve got to rate myself a 3/5. I thought I did better on the test than I actually did. I was frustrated with myself, but I realized that I studied pretty hard, and careless mistakes aren’t a true indication of how well I learned the material. If I took the test again, I know I would get a better grade. The best way I can improve is to work harder for the next test. I got this!

  14. This week was a success. I’m satisfied with my test score. I wasn’t very stressed. I like the labs a lot. I’ve gotten my homework done. I’ve bought a protractor. I’m practically set for life!!! Thanking the Lord for this week!

  15. This week is a definite 4 out of 5. I did wayyyy better on the text than I expected. The new material also makes great sense to me. I’m not so great at the exact measurements for vectors. Hopefully, that will get better with practice.

  16. This week in physics was a 1/5 for me. The 50 on the test was a real morale killer and it affected my performance this week. Despite this, I’m still determined to push on. I can only improve by first making mistakes. I’ll redo the test next week. I’m doing very well with vectors and I feel confident about this chapter. Let’s do this!

  17. This week I rate myself a 2.5/5. I did not do well on the test, but I think that I did my best with the time I was given, so I am hoping to stay content with that. However, I am understanding vectors and that makes me so happy! I hope to be less stressed next week!
