Hon Chemistry 12-6-18 Nuclear Reactors, Fission & Fusion

HON CHEMISTRY: Wow! What do you think about fission and fusion? Can you now begin to understand the destructive force of the hydrogen bomb? It’s a fusion bomb! Just another reason you might not want to plan a trip to the sun!!

We put the final touch on a lot today, and guess what? We’ve wrapped up the chapter! How are you doing on studying for the test? It will cover the beginning part of chapter 3 (through average atomic mass) and chapter 21. Did you find the Stuff to Know Sheet?

Practice everything! And did I mention, PRACTICE!! I’ll be praying for you!

  1. I rate myself a 2.5/5 this week. I got overwhelmed by the amount of material I needed to study for the test because I didn’t start preparing early enough. While I didn’t spend as much time as I should have reviewing, I still felt like I did ok on the test. Next time I will study much more in advance to avoid getting overwhelmed.

  2. This week I rate myself a 3/5. I wish that I could have studied more in advance but with all the other tests and quizzes I got overwhelmed. I thought I managed my time during the test well and I finished it before the bell rang. The thing that helped me the most was was timing myself while I did some problems from a worksheet I found online. If you struggle finishing the tests I would encourage you to do this for the exam. All I did was google aam and ram worksheets with answers. I listened to music while I worked the problems to simulate any potential distractions that might occur during the test. Then I used the stopwatch on my phone and recorded the time it took me to complete the problem so I could improve my time. I think this definitely helped improve the time it took me to perform the calculations as well as lower my stress level.

  3. One huge struggle I had this week was getting way too overwhelmed and stressed on the day of the test. I slept in this morning and had to rush out of the house to make it to the help session, so I was already overwhelmed before the school day had even started. I got way too overwhelmed with worry during the school day today and almost gave up on trying to understand completely. I didn’t studying early enough in advance, so when I began studying, I realized I didn’t understand the information as well as I thought I did. While I didn’t have any trouble understanding the math problems, I had trouble memorizing some of the information and understanding the parts of the smoke detector and the nuclear reactor. However, I actually feel like I pulled through and did very well on the test. I felt confident about almost all of my answers, and I double checked my calculations for units and all the important information needed for full credit. I will definitely begin studying for the exam in a different way to completely avoid last minute cram studying, since the chemistry exam is first.

  4. This week I struggled with getting overwhelemed and managing my time while doing homework and studying. Throughout this week, I was super busy, and with my parents gone, I had to do a lot of extra stuff that I don’t usually do. This caused me to feel very overwhelmed, especially in the last two days. However, I feel that once I just calmed down and told myself everything was going to be ok, I was fine. However, even through these struggles I feel that I have learned through this. With my parents gone and all this work, it was preparing me for when I go to college and live on my own.

  5. This week I feel that I struggled with being overwhelmed and time management. I was very busy this week because my parents were out of town, so I had to do a lot more things around the house than I usually do. This caused me to be very stressed and I struggled with time management. However, I feel that I overcame this anxiety and pushed myself to work harder and calm down. With my parents gone and a lot of schoolwork, I believe that God put this tough week in my life to strengthen and prepare me for college and living on my own.

  6. I rate myself a 3/5 this week. I really understood all the information, but there was a lot of material I needed to memorize for the test. I should have started studying earlier in the week, but I was so overwhelmed with tests in every subject that I didn’t have a lot of time. I understood most of the problems, but I struggled with the half life problems. I feel like I did well on the test, but there were a few problems I had trouble on. Overall, I feel like I did well over the week, but I need to work on managing studying for many tests all at once better.

  7. I rate myself a 4.5/5 this week. I managed to get through the week and do really well on the test at the same time. Now all that is left the exam…

  8. This week I worked on my test strategies. We learned many new things about radioactivity. I also struggled with time management on studying for my test. Over all I rate myself a 3/5 for trying my best. I do think I did much better on this test than the last few.

  9. This week I rate myself a 3/5. I rate myself this because I struggled with half life problems. I didn’t fully understand half life questions until the day of our test (yes I know that is a big yikes!). I am very thankful for my friends in this honors chemistry class that help me try to understand a concept whenever I don’t understand something. But this week I feel like I am getting back into routine because I remembered to do my webpost!

  10. I would rate myself a 4/5 in Chemistry this week. I loved learning about the history of radioactive nuclides and how they work. I also feel like I did well on my test. I studied a good amount of time and I think it paid off. I worked the problems on the back of the test first to ensure that I wouldn’t run out of time and leave them blank. I’m finally learning how to really take a test and budget my time for one. Hopefully I will feel just as good about my exam.
