Physics 8-10-18 Using the Scientific Method

PHYSICS: I love listening to you “talk through” the scientific method! Can’t wait to see what you design for your whirly gigs! Now what could you do to get the longest hang time? Hmmmmm…..

Whirly Gig template is under the Worksheet tab, if you need it. Happy flying!

  1. After the first full day of school, I can see so far that this year will definitely be challenging! Knowing that God placed me in this class for a reason is a comfort, and I know that He has a plan for me for not only this year, but for the rest of my life. All that said, I am excited to see what is in store for Honors Physics c/o 2019!! I pray that I will overcome the challenges of this year and grow a lot from my experiences!

  2. I expect to learn a lot from this class, including how to push myself harder in my studies and to become even more interested in the more complex fields of science. I can’t wait to see how much of a better student I will become through this class; I remember how drastically different my study habits had changed from the beginning of tenth grade year, and I can’t wait to see another similar reaction from me when I am pushed to what I think is the most I can possibly do. Also, I am wanting to become either an environmental lawyer or doctor when I get older, so I hope this class will help me decide what my strengths and weaknesses in the scientific career field are as we continue into more in-depth studies of Physics. Lastly, I hope to learn in Physics how to truly make the best out of any situation; I am not that great at speaking up during discussions or testing out my own hypothesis because I am afraid of being wrong. But, I know this class will only make me both a better student and person, so I am looking forward to the rest of our year!

  3. I am excited for the coming year. Science has always been my favorite subject so learning more about the world through the eyes of a physicist is thrilling! I will be working my hardest to make sure that I Do my best in everything that I do. It’s going to be a challenge for me to put down thoughts that I have onto paper but I know that this class, even this school year, will help me and prepare my way in the future.

  4. FIRST WEEK OF SENIOR YEAR!!! I still can’t believe it! But what I can believe is that I’m going to be challenged and stretched in Physics, and more importantly, I’m going to grow, not only in knowledge of science, but also in character. And that is mainly what I expect to learn in Physics– true growth! And I also know that this class is going to prepare me for whatever God has in store for me, whatever that may be! This year won’t be easy, but I know it will be all worth it in the end!

  5. I’m very excited to begin Honors Physics! The biggest area I feel like I will grow in through this course is the ability to think critically and find a solution to a problem. Even on day one we were challenged critically with the mystery tube! I am excited for this entire year because I know that we will have many more assignments that stretch my brain, even if it is a hard class!

  6. I cannot wait for what physics has in store for my class and me! I just can’t wait to dive into physics. Yesterday and today have gotten me more excited for a class than I EVER have been! I honestly can’t wait to build things, to face challenges head-on, and to push myself as far as I can. Just from today, I know God has put me into this class for a reason and I just can’t wait to see what happens!

  7. I am excited to take this class because I believe that it will grow my ability to work in a group. I also look forward to participating in the experiments, as I enjoyed watching them last year. I know this class will refine my time management and organization. This class will be difficult, but will better prepare me for college and my career.

  8. With this week being the first full week of school, I had a lot to balance between my classes and extracurriculars, but we are off to a great start! The highlight of me week was definitely the lab on Thursday. I’ve never been able to do something so crazy in a classroom. I am so proud of our collaborative efforts because I was worried we would not have a set plan before beginning the lab (shout out to Ann-Mckeel for telling us about the groupme app!) I struggled on the homework that is due today (Friday), but in class I plan to ask questions to ensure that I know what I am doing. It is a LOT of review, but I definitely need it. I also would like to state here and now that I will NOT procrastinate on the upcoming labs that do not have due dates.

  9. The first full week of school was tough! After completing two labs already, I can tell how fast we will be moving and I definitely need to make sure I stay on top of things and not fall behind! This week was a lot of fun, though! Even though my whirly gig may have lost, I feel like now, after competing against my classmates, I could go back and build the best version of it possible. Also, the human density lab was really cool! I never have actually thought about the fact that not all humans can float; I DEFINITELY did not ever think I would calculate a person’s density by submerging them in water. But overall I liked it a lot and I feel like our class worked well together. I’m excited for the many more labs to come!
