Physics 1-4-18 Impulse-Momentum Theorem

PHYSICS: Champions of the Marshmallow Blow Gun shoot off! I declare you co-champions! 🙂

And wait – so that’s why you need good running shoes! Here’s our discussion from today on the intro to momentum and the impulse-momentum theorem. Did you understand the relationship between force and time? Let’s see if you can put it to practice tomorrow!

Have you looked at the syllabus? It may be really important – especially as pertains to future endeavors! 😉

  1. This week in Physics, I would rate myself a 3 out of 5 stars. Even though I missed class on Wednesday and Thursday, I was able to watch the vodcast, and I have a good understanding of momentum and how it relates to time and force. The egg drop challenge made me really nervous, but I felt super accomplished when we were able to drop the egg from the ceiling without cracking it. We were able to apply what we know about the impulse-momentum theorem to our design.

  2. I would rate myself a 4/5 this week in physics. My group designed a pretty effective marshmallow launcher as we were able to get the mallow within inches of the tub, and my other group designed a pretty effective egg container as it was able to keep the egg intact from a 2.73 m fall! Both labs showed us how important time is when related to momentum, and I think they helped me understand the concepts we discussed even more.

  3. This week I rate myself a 4 out of 5. I was not very happy with the results of the blowgun challenge. I feel as if part of our failure was because of my aim. Otherwise I think our design was pretty good. I picked up on the momentum material we covered in class and did well on the homework. My group succeeded in the egg drop challenge. We dropped the egg from the ceiling and it didn’t crack. It was a good start to the new semester and I am looking forward to finishing out the year strong.

  4. I would rate myself a 4 out of 5 for this week. I feel like I am starting off this final semester very well and i am able to understand the concepts of momentum. I did very well on our homework and didn’t struggle with problems and comprehended the concepts very well. I was able to relate this to our egg drop contraption which was very successful since we dropped the egg from the ceiling without cracking it. I am ready to keep working on this and get better.

  5. I would rate my self a 4/5 this week because I understood the material and the homework was easy. A triumph of this week would be engineering a really good blow gun that could fire a marshmallow over 14 meters. We also designed a egg catcher that saved the egg from cracking when it was dropped from the ceiling.

  6. This week was a great week to be the first week back to school from the break. Overall, I’d rate myself a solid 5/5 because how well our first week back was. We had two design challenges in this already short week. Fortunately, the engineering design challenges are my favorite part of the class so I thoroughly enjoyed doing them. We designed and made both blowdart guns and egg-cushioning devices and my groups were successful on both challenges. We also were introduced to the next chapter in physics, momentum. I can’t wait to see what other labs we do with momentum. So far, they have been pretty fun!

  7. I believe this week was a good first week back. I don’t know if I could have handled any more than three days. I would have to rate myself a 5/5 this week because I don’t know how much better I could have done this week. Some triumphs of the week were winning the blow gun challenge and winning the egg drop challenge. I also am really getting the chapter so far. This week was a good first week back, but I’m ready to learn more next week.
