PHYSICS 11-10-17 Forces with Pulleys and Friction

PHYSICS: Here’s a different take on forces – an application of horizontal forces, vertical forces, friction, all at once! Wow! Great job on solving the problem – can you now go see if you can solve it by yourself?

Thanks, Matthew, for the visual of almost weightlessness! 🙂

  1. This week in physics felt long. I would have to rate myself a 3/5 because I had my ups and my downs this week. Starting off Monday me and my party utterly failed at the coefficient of friction lab. I did feel like I did pretty good on the test. I really liked the engineering challenge and we dominated. Speaking of dominating we also dominated the conservation of energy lab too. This week was pretty fun and I don’t know if next week can beat it.

  2. I would rate myself a 3/5 this week. I felt extremely prepared for the test because I went back and watched a couple of vodcasts so I knew exactly how to work the last problem. However, I rushed through the discussion questions and multiple choice so I do not feel good about them. Then, my team struggled with the design challenge. We were able to launch the projectile near the target but were unable to aim it precisely and get it to go far enough that it could land on the target.

  3. This week I would rate myself a 4 out of 5. My group didn’t do so well in the coeffecient of friction lab but we tried again today and got it down so we learned from our mistakes. I really enjoyed the engineering challenge for this week even though my team lost. We learned from this and will be able to grow from it. We also did the conservation of energy lab it was real interesting how it worked and wouldn’t work if you didn’t make the correct modifications. This was a good week for me to learn from failures and I hope it continues without the failures

  4. I would rate myself a 3/5 this week because I’m not sure if I did as good on the test as I should have. A triumph of this week was winning the design challenge and finishing the coefficient of friction lab in one class period. A struggle of this week was the test and trying to prepare for it. I will try to prepare for it better next time

  5. This week in Physics I would rate myself a 3 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed the lab on finding the coefficient of friction of wood on wood because it allowed us to see one of the problems we have been working in real life. Even though I felt confident about our lab results, Matthew and I still had over 10% error, and we were able to retry our lab procedure to get less error. The engineering challenge and the conservation of energy lab helped me to think outside of the box, and I really enjoyed all of the interactive activities that we did in class this week. Even though this week was fun, I struggled during the test because I had a hard time finishing all of the problems and discussion questions in enough time.

  6. This week I rate myself a 4 out of 5. The test was a struggle this week. I feel like I did not do enough to prepare myself for the test. The coefficient of friction lab was a triumph. My partners and I worked very well on this lab and were able to complete it in just one class period. The thlab was also a success. I am looking forward to learning new stuff next week and finishing this nine weeks strong.

  7. This week was a mixture of struggle and triumph in Physics. My group was very successful in the Coefficient of Friction lab, getting practically no error. Unfortunately, the test was a little rough because I was pressed for time so I need to make sure I need to get faster in general. We had fun with the in-class thLab and got to work on our lab write ups today. I am looking forward to the work and energy chapter after the brake!
