Physics 11-2-17 Friction Problems & Friction on Inclines

PHYSICS: Who knew snow skiing could be so complicated! Well…friction problems on an incline anyway. Here’s the problem 49 from the homework and then our discussion of friction problems on an incline.

Back to the problems – remember, drawing the diagram is super, super important. Label all the forces and apply the concepts you know about net forces and resultant forces – let it tell you a story. 🙂

  1. I would rate myself a 4 out of 5 this week because at first I really struggled at finding forces, but we have been practicing them and I am more efficient at solving them. With practice on the difficult problems, I feel that I will be very prepared for the test. I actually enjoyed the challenge of these problems because I am growing as a physics students every time even if I struggle because I must eventually get it.

  2. This week I would rate myself a 4 out of 5 stars because I really enjoyed working the problems finding the coefficient of friction and normal forces. The homework problems were challenging, but I worked all of them until I got stuck and figured out some of the more challenging ones. On Monday, Arlie, Brendan, and I were able to turn in our Capstone lab even though the program crashed before we had the chance to save our final results. Despite this, we were still able to see Newton’s Third Law through all of our results, and we learned how to use Capstone more effectively.

  3. This week I would rate myself a 3/5. I surprised myself with how well I did on the friction problems, but I think I can attribute my success to understanding the concepts behind each problem which really helps. I still struggled with the more difficult problems but once you set them up in class I saw where I went wrong and feel fully confident about the problems going forward. I still have a little work to finish up on my labs, but I am mostly done so I will be able to focus on my project this weekend.
