Chemistry 1-26-16 Spectroscopy Lab

CHEMISTRY: How’d you like playing with light? Kind of pretty, huh? Check with me in class – we may end up doing the outside part on Thursday instead of Wednesday as it’s a bit chilly outside!!! If so, the lab packet will still be due at the end of the period on Thursday so you can finish those last couple of questions.

Are you clear on how to turn in the lab report? Observations from the diffraction grating today will be in two parts: 1) the written observation – answers to those four questions for BOTH types of light on notebook paper, and 2) your drawings of both kinds of light on card stock or heavy white paper, and then both drawings mounted together on one sheet of construction paper. Be sure to label everything.

Observations from Part 2 with the spectroscope will be answered on the actual lab sheets/packet. Be sure and read ahead so that you can double check to make sure you answered every single observation and question. The entire packet will be due on Thursday!!

  1. This week I felt good during the lab. My partner and I completed the lab and are ready to finish the next part. I would give us a 4 out of 5 stars so far because we had some mess ups but we recovered well.

  2. This week I have done much better. I would give myself a 4/5. I checked my grades and saw that I could be working harder and have definitely been challenged to do better. I plan on taking more time on my homework because if I make sure I am understanding it all the way it should help me tremendously on the test. I also plan on begining to study at a sooner time for the test instead of waiting till one or two nights before to start studying.

  3. This week we learned about light and how it involved how electrons work I enjoyed this a lot so now I can go out and look at the light and notice all the different colors that are really in light.

  4. This week I give myself 5/5 because I feel confident in the lab and how much fun it was. Since it was a short week we’ve been learning about light and wavelengths, and the way that different colors work in lights.

  5. This week we learned about light and did a lab involving it. The lab we did this week is my favorite one we’ve done so far. I thought it was really interesting and just loved everything about it. We also got out test back and I feel like I’m spending too much time on the math problems and not enough time on memorizing the information. I’ll do better on the next test. I rate myself a 4/5 this week.

  6. Rate- I rate myself a 6 out of 10 this week because after I got the hang of it I felt like I did good with the Spectroscopy Lab.

  7. This week I learned about the different types of light and visible light and other forms of light. This week I would rate myself a 4 out of 5 stars because I felt like my lab partner and I worked well together on this lab and we got along. I also feel like I need to practice what we learned today in class with the problems with the frequency and wavelength. I know it will take some practice but I know I can do it.

  8. This week in chemistry i would rate myself a 4 out of 5. I learned about the properties of Different forms of light and their waves. I understood the spectroscopy lab very well and thought it was very interesting. It was also interesting viewing light through the spectrometer.

  9. This week we did a lab about the light spectrum. It was interesting to learn about how “rainbows” are not just caused by the rain that reflects sun light, but it can be different types of lightbulbs too. I would rate myself a 4 out of 5 this week because my test grade wasn’t amazing but it was better than others I have taken.

  10. This week I learned about the light spectrum. I learned the light spectrum can be different for each kind of lightbulb and that they all give off different patterns. I rate myself a 4/5 this week because me and my lab partner worked good and used our time in class good. Looking forward to next week!

  11. I would rate myself 3/5 I feel like I got distracted when we left the classroom ,but when the work was needed I did the work. I now understand how little of the electromagnetic wave we can actually see.

  12. this week was really fun with the light lab and all. I’m really worried about ctaching up after being out sick for so long.

  13. I was very interested in looking at the spectrums of the different types of lights. It was fun to look at all of the different colors. I really liked this lab, and really enjoyed drawing the spectrums. I struggled with understanding the wave problems on Thursday. This week I rate myself a three out of five.

  14. This week we learned about how electrons are involved in the production of light. I really understood all the information this week because I took detailed notes. I feel like I’m catching on to everything we’ve learned about involving photons and orbitals and the electron cloud. I would rate myself a 4/5 for my diligence in taking notes and paying attention in class.
