Hon Chemistry 11-27-17 Structure of the Atom

HON CHEMISTRY: Were you able to follow the connections the scientists made as they discovered the structure of the atom? Here’s the lecture from today. Do you think there could be anything smaller than protons, neutrons, and electrons? Hmmmmm……

Make sure you know the name of the scientists, the name of their experiments, be able to draw a diagram of their experiment, and describe how they interpreted the experimental results that led to their discoveries.

Don’t forget about the video clip we watched in class – and I’ve included a couple extra ones. they’ll help you review the different experiment that the guys like Thompson and Rutherford did. Click here for the video on the Cathode Ray Tube Experiment that Thompson did, and also for a little history on The Discovery of the Electron. Here’s the other one on The Discovery of the Nucleus.

By the way – how do you feel about playing scientist last week? How is what you did similar to the work of early scientists in discovering the structure of the atom?

Chemistry 12-1-11 Structure of the Atom

CHEMISTRY: Great job on using experimental results to form a conclusion! Here’s the lecture from Thursday on the discovery of electrons, the nucleus, and neutrons. Lots of stuff to learn, but make sure you just don’t learn facts – be able to apply the concepts.

Check out the videos in the VodPod collection below. You can find the cathode ray tube experiment, Rutherford’s gold foil experiment, and others. Be able to explain not only what they did in their experiments, but how Thompson and Rutherford used the experimental results to discover the electron, nucleus and protons. Cookie dough, yum! 🙂

Hon Chemistry 11-16-11 Structure of the Atom

HON CHEMISTRY – Hey guys, Here’s the lecture from Thursday on how scientists began to determine the structure of the atom and the existence of subatomic particles. FYI – as we go on, make sure you know the name of the scientists, the name of their experiments, be able to draw a diagram of their experiment, and describe how they interpreted the experimental results that led to their discoveries. Wow, that’s a mouthful!

Don’t forget the videos in the Vodpod below! They will help a lot as you review the different scientists experiments. BTW – Do you think there could be anything smaller? Than an electron, I mean??

One last thing – remember that make-up labs are Thursday morning at 7:15 A.M. and Thursday afternoon at 3:30 P.M. 🙂
