HON CHEMISTRY: God bless as you study for the chapter 4 test! Here’s our overview of the test and look back at some of the “problems” from the chapter. BONUS – Below today’s lesson, I’ve also included a vodcast of a review day with electron notations.
Have you checked out the Chapter 4 Stuff to Know Sheet? Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to memorize the things you need to memorize so that you can apply them on the test. And practice, practice, practice, the problems and electron configurations. Did I mention that already?
What about applications for discussion? Photoelectric effect, spectroscopy, etc.? Another great idea for studying is to watch the videos that we watched in class, and others – super helpful as you study for the test!! Here are some of them:
Spectrum of the Stars (overivew of the results of the spectroscopy lab you did, shows the connection between our lab on spectroscopy and how we can identify elements), Emission Spectrum of Hydrogen (how we use it to know about the energy levels in an atom), Quantum Mechanics (about the roles of Bohr, Schrodinger, Heisenberg), and also Animated Quantum Mechanics.

Hon Chemistry 1-22-20 Electron Configuration Homework & Practice
I rate myself a 4/5 for this week. I was able to do a lot of the problems that we did on homework and in class quite well, and I’m very thankful for that. I kept up with the lessons and I was able to start studying a bit each night for Monday’s test. Also, I enjoyed the flame lab we did on Thursday, it was really fascinating.
This week, I would rate myself a 4/5. Throughout the entire week, I kept up with all my assignments and was able to not only complete them, but understand the problems as well. I also started to review for Monday’s test this week. Another thing that I feel like I did well on and actually had fun with was the flame lab. My lab partner and I had some troubles with Bunsen burners, but we were still able to complete the lab and see all the beautiful colors!
This week I would rate myself a 3/5 stars because I’m struggling a little bit with the concept we’re learning right now but I also did very well on the flame lab we had today. I plan to watch over the vodcasts of the lesson so that I can be fully prepared for the test on Monday.
My article was about how scientists are creating and using muons in particle accelerators. It’s said how muons were made (firing a large number of protons until the target was destroyed and all that remained were muons, particles like electrons, but larger and independent of atoms) and how they are used in the accelerator itself. Muons have always escaped the grasps of scientists until they cooled the acceleration chamber and that slowed the muons that were scattered across the accelerator. This allowed them to analyze the muon more closely and what it did to objects it collided with.
