Chemistry 1-15-20 Isotopes & Average Atomic Mass

CHEMISTRY: Isn’t God awesome to give us minds to understand the world around us – even the parts we can’t see!

Here’s the discussion from Wednesday on isotopes and average atomic mass. How are you doing on writing nuclear symbols? Also make sure you can use them to determine the number of protons, neutrons, electrons, etc., AND be sure you can use the formula to find average atomic mass!

Can you believe atoms are that small – and the nucleus even waaaaaay smaller! The thumbnail is a picture of atoms from the IBM Almaden Research Center. These are iron atoms on top of copper. Being able to move atoms around like this was a giant leap in the field of nanotechnology! (Sorry about that, bad pun! 🙂 )

  2. This week I triumphed with understanding what we’re doing in class. Doing practice problems and rewatching the vodcasts helped me understand the material.

  3. My triumph this week is remembering and understanding the protons and neutrons and everything that goes with that. I remember it from 8th grade and I didn’t really get it then but I definitely understand it way better now.

  4. This week my triumph was completing all my assignments. I felt very on top of things and the reward felt nice. The information is also interesting.

  5. I’ve triumphed this week through the notes and discussion. I’ve kept up with what you are teaching us about and understood it. I think that I’ve learned from my mistakes in the past in your class and have learned to listen more. This helps me understand the material better.

  6. My triumph this week was taking notes, it may not seem too important but I struggle with paying attention so this was quite the accomplishment.

  7. This week I triumphed in understanding the things we learned and taking good notes in class. I also finished my lab report, a little late due to no internet but I got it done.

  8. My triumph this week my triumph was in my lab report. I was able to complete it well by doing my best and also turned it in on time.

  9. This week I’ve triumphed in understanding the material we’ve learned this week. Doing the homework and going over my notes has helped me overcome this.

  10. My triumph this week would be paying attention and taking notes in class. Another thing would be in the lab report not waiting till the last minute to do it.

  11. This week my triumph was catching up on all the lessons even though I was sick. I did this by watching them and taking notes on them. I also was able to do the homework.
