So it wasn’t very pretty today, BUT I think you made tons of progress in how you think. Can you go back now and polish them up and make them beautiful?

This week, as my depression and I battle for control of my priorities and motivation, the quote from last week’s syllabus has been floating in and out of my mind:
“Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.”
and not only are there another two lines like Ms. Skinner said:
“And when I am dying, how happy I’ll be,
If the lamp of my life is burned out for thee.”
but there is a whole poem, by missionary C. T. Studd
Now, being the motivated researcher I am (only when procrastinating doing something else, obviously), I had to go and find Studd’s life story.
When I say this guy was poetic, I mean it for real.
He went to work as a missionary in China, notorious for its anti-Christianity. Of this he said, “Some want to live within the sound of church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell.”
Not only was he a missionary to China for fifteen years, but he also established a church in India and stayed there for six years, and then ministered in Africa for the rest of his life, establishing the Heart of Africa Mission to bring Christianity to Central Africa. In addition to that mission, he founded the WEC, the Worldwide Evangelism Crusade.

I rate myself a sin(π/3) out of 5 this week. I have been super behind this week and am so exhausted. Thankfully, towards the end of the week, my grip on the concepts of this class has increased. However, my procrastination has been my demise this week in particular. I am SOOOO glad it’s homecoming tomorrow and there’s no school so PARTAY!!!! Let’s goo!
This week I would rate myself a 4 out of 5. Academically, I finally started getting a hang of the problems this week. And I also enjoyed doing the alternate assessment with some of my classmates. Also, tomorrow is homecoming so of course the end of this week is going to be better than any other. I’m super stoked for my last homecoming and couldn’t be more excited for our last guy cheer.
This week I rate myself the derivative of -6cos(π/6) (3) out of 5. I have understood all the material in this chapter so far except for the relative motion problems such as the plane and the torpedo. I still do not fully understand those problems; however, I just watched a khan academy video, and it is starting to get through. I was just grounded in all I knew conceptually about vectors and in those problems it seemed impossible for the apparent resultant to not be the longest side. However, I now realize that it is more of a conceptual problem than a strictly mathematical one. Other than that, I have done quite well this week, and I hope to perform quite well on this test.
This week I rate myself a 4.000001/5. This is the first week that I have felt very confident about the material. I understand the problems, and most of them came somewhat easy for me. I hope that my shakiness from the first two chapters doesn’t bring me down on the upcoming test. In order to capitalize on my confidence, I need to carry through on my plans of working through the problems again and get them perfect. All I need to work on is the speed I can do the problems.
This week I’d give myself a 3/5. My effort level has been crazy high, so I’m killing myself trying to figure out these problems. I still can’t get the hang of it. The time in class has helped, but I’m still nervous about this test. I’m going to reread the chapter this weekend and keep reworking problems. Hopefully, I will be more confident by Monday.
