Hon Chemistry 8-29-19 Finding Relationships Between Data

HON CHEMISTRY – You’ve learned to gather the “pieces of the puzzle”, now it’s time to put them together so they can have meaning! Here’s our look again at density, and then our overivew of direct and inverse proportions. Just brief info for the test for now, and we’ll put it to practice in a couple of activities after the test.

How’re you doing on these last problems? Are you able to pull together all we’ve done in this chapter? When working problems, don’t forget to follow these problem solving steps:

  • Analyze – write down what you’re given and what you’re looking for
  • Plan – write a formula where you isolate the unknown on one side by itself
  • Compute – plug in your data, numbers and units; then cancel the units, and if they cancel correctly, go on to the calculator. Be sure and give your answer what the correct units.
  • Evaluate – does your answer make sense, have you used the correct units, do you have the correct sig figs?

As you study, remember, don’t just read your notes – practice your notes, practice the problems, practice the memorization!! By the way have you had a chance to check out the Chapter 2 Stuff to Know sheet and the chapter 2 study suggestions sheet? They are under the Test Info tab.

  1. This week, I did well with taking notes and watching the vodcasts when I missed class. I made an effort not to fall behind and I worked hard on every grade. Watching the vodcasts really helped me to comprehend the lessons more and to take more notes that I missed during class.

  2. This week I did well in studying for the SI quiz – I gave myself enough time (didn’t cram) and actively practiced them. Remembering SI prefixes was what my struggle was last week, so I can definitely see a triumph in that. My studying paid off because I did well on the quiz.

  3. This week in Chemistry, what I triumphed at was my SI unit quiz. I also triumphed at remembering to look at the weekly sylibus

  4. A triumph that I had this week was staying engaged in all of the class discussions and problems that we worked. This is an improvement from last week when I didn’t really talk out problems that we worked in class and just took notes.

  5. This week I did very well looking past my innumerable mistakes and shortcomings, which is normally my biggest struggle. Personally I consider this an enormous triumph because I struggle with it so much.

  6. This week I did very well at preparing for the SI quiz. I studied daily and made sure I understood everything. The studying definitely paid off, and I am very happy with what I made on the quiz!

  7. My triumph was that studied really hard and I got a 100 on the SI unit quiz. I’m very proud of this because it shows that hard work and dedication pays off in Chemistry.

  8. My triumph this week was that I got a good grade on my SI unit quiz. I got a good grade because I studied hard for it and prepared for it.
