Hon Chemistry 4-15-19 Double Replacement & Combustion Reactions

HON CHEMISTRY: You realize what we did? We finished all 17 types of reactions today!

Careful when you work tonight’s homework! For all single replacement reactions and reactions involving forming or decomposing oxide, be sure and refer to the Activity Series. Yes, you will get to memorize it, but for the big test, not for the coming up quiz!

Are you working on memorizing all 17 types of reactions?! But don’t just memorize them. Make sure you can apply them as well. When you start to work any equation, first determine what type of reaction it is, then figure out what rule applies and follow it to determine the products. I believe in you! You can do it!! (and yes, I realize I am repeating myself, but I do and you can!)

  1. This week I rate myself a 2/5. This week was not my week. I thought I was writing chemical equations right, but when I got back the worksheets, I wasn’t writing diatomic molecules **facepalm**. My grade is also lower than I want it to be because I can’t seem to make an 100 on anything. Oh whale. I also broke a test tube and a beaker during a lab…love it. But we finished the lab (in record time), and I didn’t break anything else. Also on the plus side, Ms. Skinner is back!

  2. This week I rate myself a 3.5/5. I fully understand how to balance the chemical equations, but it is a lot to memorize. Although I had a track meet on Tuesday, I made plenty of time to study for the quiz. I feel like I did very well on the quiz. When we got the worksheets back, I saw that I knew how to write and balance the reactions correctly except for a silly mistake with a charge. The lab this week was really fun and insightful. I hope we have more weeks like this one. Overall, this week was very good, and I am so glad I really understand the chemical reactions. I am going to continue to practice for the test!

  3. I rate this week a 5/5. The Home Missions trip was amazing guys. I can’t wait to apply what I’ve learned on this trip to other mission trips and projects that I am involved with in the future. This week has been a much needed exploration of myself outside of my comfort zone. I was able to get to know many new friends in the junior class, most of whom encouraged me to begin researching for “The Project” asap, instead of procrastinating. I have not been able to get much work done so please pray for me as I attempt to get as much work done as possible on the ride home and this weekend. I am looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend as we celebrate the amazing sacrifice Jesus made for each one of us. On this trip Dr. Mackey told us this, “If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.”

  4. I rate myself a 2/5 this week. My grade is currently lower than usual because I forgot a homework at home, and I completely forgot about diatomic molecules while doing the first worksheet. I have also majorly procrastinated recently due to my lack of energy. I plan to catch up on some much needed sleep and complete as much research as possible this weekend while also beginning to prepare for the test! Have a great Easter weekend!

  5. This week I rate myself a 1/5. I’m disappointed that I did so poorly on my quizzes and I wish I could understand how to balance chemical equations but I gave myself one point out of five because despite having boiling water splashed on my hand during a lab, I managed to be okay and finish. This weekend I plan to work very hard on my project and get fully into my paper.
