Hon Chemistry 1-17-19 Quantum Numbers

HON CHEMISTRY: Great job with quantum numbers today! Wow, it was a lot. Confused yet?

Don’t worry! Today you learned all the background information about quantum numbers, tomorrow we’ll put it all together and it will begin to make sense.

  1. I rate myself a 4.5/5 this week. I understood the notes an the homework this week. I had fun doing the second part of the lab and the emission line lab. The quantum numbers are a lot, but they are easy to understand. One thing I can focus on to do better is learn the order that the numbers fall in for filling the orbitals. Overall, this was a really good week and I understood the notes, but I can work on memorizing the types of quantum numbers.

  2. This week I rate myself a 4/5. I have felt really good about this week in chemistry because I understand the material thus far and I have stayed on top of my work both inside of class and out. I struggled with the patterns by which the electrons fill the orbitals, but once you showed us that diagram, it made much more sense.

  3. This week I rate myself a 4/5. The spectroscopy labs were fairly straightforward and Buchanan and I were able to complete them relatively easily. I enjoyed viewing all the different wavelengths of light during these labs. Also, this week’s notes have been mind-blowing. I still do not fully understand the double slit experiment, but I have a pretty good idea of why the photons and electrons are behaving this way. On the other hand, I have not been able to fully grasp the quantum concepts, but I am working on developing a more complete understanding of them. All in all, I have been efficient in completing my chemistry work and have grasped most of the concepts, so it has been a good week.

  4. This week I rate myself a 4/5. I’ve been keeping up with the homework and I really enjoyed The emission spectra labs. The notes today were honestly a little overwhelming but the diagram you showed us in class helped a lot.

  5. This week, I rate myself a 4/5. I had a lot of fun doing the Spectroscopy lab. I’ve understood the majority of the notes, and nothing has been too confusing so far. I remember more than I thought I did from 8th grade about the orbitals, but learning it more in depth has been cool. All the experiments that the scientists have done are really wild. It’s hard to believe they figured out how to split light to where you could see the colors! I’m really enjoying this chapter.

  6. This week I rate my week a 3/5. I have been a little confused with the notes, but I hope when I rewatch the vodcasts, they will become more clear to me. I thought the Spectroscopy labs were really cool! Being able to see how much of a certain color is in light is very interesting!! As of right now, it has been my favorite lab. I’m very thankful that this week I figured out I was plugging in my exponents wrong, instead of the day before the test. I think by fixing that problem, I can do better on the homework problems.

  7. This week I feel that I triumphed over being tired and procrastinating my work. In fact, I had a very strong desire to become more efficient in doing my work for all of my classes. It has been harder than I thought it would be since dance started this week, and I’ve been consistently getting less and less sleep. All in all, however, I feel that I have improved.

  8. I rate myself a 3/5 for this week. I have had trouble understanding what we have been learning, but doing the homework really helps. Also, I have been going back and rewatching the vodcasts to better understand. My notes have gotten a lot more organized and I have also not procrastinated this week.

  9. I rate myself a 4/5 this week. I have been able to understand the notes without too many issues, and I have understood the homework. I also worked ahead on homework, which I definitely didn’t do last semester, and it has made my life a lot easier! I had trouble with the labs at the beginning of the week because I wasn’t able to see through the spectrometer, but my amazing lab partner was very patient and helpful, so everything turned out ok!

  10. This week I rate myself a 3.5/5. I am surprised at how much I remember about electrons from the eighth grade, however i feel that some concepts are a little confusing. I plan to rewatch the vodcasts before the test to ensure that I throroughly understand each concept.

  11. I would rate myself a 3/5 this week. The labs at the beginning of the week were frustrating until I realized I was using my blurry eye to try and see the numbers. After that, the labs got much better. The notes weren’t to bad to follow this week and I actually understood today’s lesson pretty well.
