Physics 4-12-18 Characteristics of Light & Plane Mirrors

PHYSICS: So much fun with light! Here’s the lecture on the characteristics of light, polarization, reflection and plane mirrors. We’ll play with mirrors and the reflection of light a bit more tomorrow!

  1. This week in Physics I would rate myself a 4 out of 5 stars. I liked finishing the unit on waves with a lab because it helped me to understand how you can find the speed of sound in air based on the known frequency and calculated wavelength. I feel like I was well-prepared for the test Wednesday, and I am super excited about learning about electromagnetic waves. This weekend, Matthew, Nathan, and I are going to put the finishing touches on our Rube Goldberg project–wish us luck!

  2. I think this week in Physics went pretty well. We finished up our chapter on waves and did a cool lab on the speed of sound using PVC pipes and water. We also had the test, which I actually think I did pretty well on, especially the math. The conceptual questions could have been better, as usual. I missed a day but we ended up having that lecture again when I got back so I did not miss anything. Now we are starting on lightwaves, which should be the last chapter of the year!

  3. This week I rate myself a 3 out of 5. I feel like I could have done better on the test. I could have studied the conceptual things better. However I feel like I did well on the problems on the test. Writing my name in a mirror was definitely a challenge, but it was interesting. This weekend my group for the Rube Goldberg project is going to have to work hard to finalize everything.

  4. This week in physics I would rate myself a 4/5. I think I did well on the test because all of the math problems were easy to figure out. I’m mad that I went back and changed a couple of my multiple choice and I think I changed them to the wrong answers. Still, I feel pretty confident about it. I enjoyed the introduction to light, especially tracing the star because it showed me how crazy our brain works to reflect images.

  5. This week in physics I would rate myself a 4 out of 5. I believe that I did good on the test and understood the conceptual and applied it better than usual. The problems also went very good so hopefully my grade reflects that. I really enjoyed the lab because it actually helped me understood the concepts much better and we also did very good by getting 0.2% error. We are getting closer to the end and I hope to keep finishing strong

  6. This week in physics was really good. I would rate myself 4/5. I studied and I think I did well on the test. Thursday was a rough day because we didn’t watch the whole vid cast and I really didn’t understand the homework. I tried to teach myself and I did start to understand some of it. Friday really cleared up some of the stuff and I think I’m getting it know. I can’t wait for next week.

  7. This week in Physics I would rate myself a 4 out of 5 stars. Matthew, Nathan, and I worked really hard fixing our project and making adjustments so that it would work for the competition Thursday. I really enjoyed hearing from the guest speaker Wednesday because it helped me to think about other careers in the science field that I had never considered before. I was really happy with how I did on my test, and as the end of the year is quickly approaching, I am going to work hard and finish strong!

  8. This week I would rate myself a 4/5. We had a success with our Rube Goldberg machine as it worked finally, but I was still disappointed it didn’t work on its first try. Still, we were able to apply all of the concepts we learned this year into a really cool project. Also, we started learning about mirrors which seems simple enough for now, so I am ready to learn more about them next week.

  9. This week in physics was pretty fun. We had our Rube Goldberg project due on Tuesday and competition on Thursday. After our speaker breaking, ours worked twice in a row! Weeks of work paid off! We had a guest speaker come speak on chemical engineering, and it was so interesting! The mirror chapter is a bit tricky to wrap your head around but it’s pretty cool. Winding the year down!

  10. This week in physics was very unique. We didn’t learn much this week since we had so many activities going on. This is th me first week that I can say I would rate myself 5 out of 5. We had a great success on our Rube Goldberg machine after many trials and failures. I also did become very interested in chemical engineering after our guest speaker. I really enjoyed this week and am glad that we had this week heading towards the end.

  11. This week in physics I would rate myself a 4/5 because we did well on the Rube Goldberg project. A triumph of the week was the project working. A struggle of the week was trying to get it to work

  12. This week I rate myself a 3 out of 5. This week was a mix of both triumphs and failures especially with the Rube Goldberg machine. Throughout the week it was a major struggle. It seemed like everything we tried did not work. However we got it to work when it mattered. Today was alright some of the information about concave and convex mirrors. I’m looking forward to wrapping up this school year.

  13. This week in physics was probably the best and the most stressful we have had. I started the week out at orientation and I was relying on Arlie to get our project done. I got back and worked on it til 1 am. We finally got it done and brought it to school. We still had to do some final touches at the last minute but we got them done. We got the compatition and after a little Apollo 13 improvising we got it on the first try. Later this week we went over mirrors and I think I get it. Overall I would have to rate myself a 5/5.

  14. This week I rate myself a 4 out of 5. This week I feel like I have grasped the lessons fairly well. The mirrors were a bit of a challenge. The colors were difficult at first, but I feel comfortable with them now. The lab we did Wednesday and Thursday was very interesting. I am looking forward to the Six Flags trip.

  15. This week I would rate myself a 4 out of 5. My only struggle is getting the concepts down for mirrors. I am finding colors and mirrors to be very interesting. It amazes me how our brain can tell us something while it should be something else. I also am amazed that this is one of our final web post. I can’t believe we have come this far and grown in learning. It has been fun a ride and I will use many of the lessons learned in this class I’m college and my future life.
