Physics 1-30-18 Torque Problems

PHYSICS: How do you feel about the torque problems? Here’s the review of concepts and problems from class today and a look at putting rotational equilibrium together with translational equilibrium. The beginning of good times!

  1. This week in Physics I would rate myself a 4 out of 5 stars. On Monday, my car was successful, but I am going to work this weekend to make it run straighter, faster, and stronger! I really enjoyed class on Wednesday because we were able to explore torque and center of mass by observing real-life applications in class (the “magic” corks and birds). I struggled with the Torques I worksheet, but working the Torques II worksheet was much easier after we went through some of the problems together. I thought our lab yesterday was fun because it was like working a torque problem in real life, and I loved ending the week talking about science in the news and playing with chain reactions!

  2. I would rate myself a 3/5 this week. My car was extremely successful when we tested them out Monday and I think it should be just fine for the competition. I did struggle with the torque problems at first but once we discussed them in class I understood my mistakes and feel more confident with them now. My lab group was actually able to finish the torque lab with time to spare so that was another positive. As long as I keep practicing on the torque problems I will be good to go.

  3. I would rate myself a 4/5 this week because I feel like I understood most of the homework problems and material. A triumph of the week was finishing the lab quickly and getting within 7 grams of the actually mass. A struggle of the week was learning where to put the pivot point in the problems.

  4. I would rate myself a 3/5 this week. I did very good on the torque II worksheet, but I struggled on the torque I worksheet. I also struggled with my car. I am working on it this weekend and hopefully it will be better. I did do very good on the lab and I was happy about that. I really liked how we ended the week off with the popsicle sticks.

  5. I would rate myself a 3 out of 5 because the highlight of the week was me and nathan struggling with the stick chain reactions. It was really cool to see but a positive of the week was that I discovered I struggle with conceptual more than problems and I hope we have a potential help for that so I hope it works for the future test.

  6. This was another fun and interesting week in Physics. We’ve learned all about a topic I like to discuss quite often, torque. Since I like how cars work, this chapter has been super interesting to me. We got to do a class Physics lab using a balancing meter stick to observe the effects of torque. We did some pretty difficult homework with the torque1 worksheet. I struggled a little but soon overcame it once I figured out how to draw some of them correctly! We learned a little more and (thankfully) got to end the week with a Chemistry lab! The popsicle lab was not only super fun but surprisingly intriguing! Even though our test is over a week away I will be sure to start reviewing the conceptual concepts now so I’ll do better on the multiple choice!

  7. This week I would rate myself a three out of five. At the beginning of the week the torque problems were extremely difficult for me. However as the week went on I feel as though I improved on them. I feel like my partners and I did very good on the lab Thursday. I’m looking forward to the king of the hill competition next week.
