Chemistry 8-23-17 SI Measurements

CHEMISTRY – Hey guys, so is all the info on SI measurements starting to come back to you? Here’s the lecture from today. I’m sure it’s mostly review from your physical science days, but it’s a great opportunity to refresh what you’ve learned and to get ready to begin using it!

Did you remember the prefixes? Start work on memorizing them NOW – Si quantities, units, and SI prefixes. For the prefixes, also make sure that you can tell me how many of something in the larger one. (That’s what I explained in class.) The quiz on them will be next Wednesday, August 30.

  1. This week in chemistry I rate myself a 4/5. I really understood all the lessons this week and me and my partner worked really well together in the oobleck lab. I definitely think there is always room for improvement. I am gonna try to get started on the SI scavenger hunt this weekend so I don’t cram it all in one night. All in all, this has been a pretty good week in chemistry!

  2. This week I used my newly acquired correct measure skills to measure out how much of an ingredient to include in the food I was making everyday. I had to measure out cups of water and oil and I knew I had the right amount when I read it at eye level.

  3. Triumph: This week my partner and I successfully made our ooblek and managed our class time wisely. I also checked the website everyday to stay on top of my work. It has been a great week in chemistry!

  4. This week I would rate my self 3/5 because I did the wrong homework, but I understood the oobleck lab and have been working on the scavenger hunt. I intend to stay on top of the homework so I can prepare for a better week in chemistry.

  5. This week I struggled because I missed a day of class because of sickness, but thanks to both friends and the website, I was able to get right back on track within the next day and a half. I also nearly had a heart attack when someone told me the thLAB Scavenger hunt was due the 25th, but a quick double check of the syllabus showed that it was actually due the next Friday and I would have more than a 25 on my scavenger hunt!

  6. This week I learned the different units symbols and measurements of the si system and I feel confident that I will be good at it

  7. With learning about the si system this week I feel confident that with a little more practice I will be able to understand it completely

  8. This week I rate myself a 4/5. I understood everything we talked about and took very good notes. Gonna get started on my take home lab this weekend. Ready for next week.

  9. I rate myself a 4/5 this week. I studied my SI prefixes throughout this whole week and learned most of them. I also learned how to use significant figures and how to round them.

  10. This week was a triumph for me. I have been studying and memorizing my SI prefixes. I started my scavenger hunt and I’m able to apply the SI system, and I feel like its helping me learn a lot. Also, today I learned how to use the online chemistry book!

  11. This week I would rate myself a 4/5. I understood everything we went over this week. I really enjoyed the oobleck lab we did this week.

  12. I rate myself a 3.5/5 stars. I understood most of the content, although I am having trouble with SI Units and conversions. I will continue to work with them to get better at it. The reason I gave myself a 3 instead of at least a 4 is because I forgot my homework one day which tells me to keep an eye on the syllabus. All in all, it was a good week.
