Beginnings

What a great first day! You’re off to a great start on a truly tremendous adventure. I’m so glad you’re in my class and that I’ll be able to share this adventure with you! Here is your assignment for tomorrow and for the next few days.

  • TODAY – Sign up for Remind. Follow the instructions on the Technology Overview sheet you got in class today. This sheet is also here on the website under the “Worksheets/Handouts” tab. (Your parents can sign up for this also.)
  • Read the class info sheet front & back – sign it and ask your parents to sign it (front & back!!!). The Class info sheet is due by MONDAY in class. The Class Info sheet is also here on the website under the “Class Procedures” tab on the top left of this page, if you didn’t get one in class.
  • Enter your information in the form below. You may need to use the scroll bar on the right side of the form to get to the bottom of it. The form must be completed by 8:00 A.M., THIS Monday morning, but I encourage you to do it before then!
  • Check your syllabus daily to see what we are going to be doing in class this week, for homework, and for the due dates for class supplies!!

  1. I would rate myself a 3/5 this week because I was in the middle of the pack every race we did with our whirly gigs. I tried multiple papers and multiple lengths but none of them worked as well as the original large sized printer paper. I felt that my effort was great but maybe if I had been more creative then I would’ve had better results.

  2. I would rate myself a 4/5 for this week. I understood the items that we went over this week and enjoyed having to be challenged and think outside of the box to figure out the test that we were given. I am ready for a great year in Honors Physics

  3. I would rate myself 3/5 this week because I struggled making a good whirly gig. I tried multiple variables, but most everything I tried winded up going faster than the control. I’m also happy I finished the first week with a 100.

  4. I would rate myself a 4/5 this week because I worked really hard to solve the string tube thing and make the slowest whirly gig. The struggle this week was trying to figure out how to think for myself and the triumph was figuring out the string tube thing. I’m looking forward to a great physics year.

  5. I rate myself a 4/5 this week. The tube had me stumped at the beginning, but I eventually got it. I think that I did well on the whirley gig lab. It was a little tough trying to think of ideas to make it go down slower. Overall I think it was a good week and am looking forward to physics this year.

  6. This week in physics I would rate myself a 4/5 stars. I’m starting to get used to thinking more independently, and I really enjoyed the tube and the string puzzle because it was challenging! Also, the whirly-gig lab helped me to think more creatively, but I’m still working on making sure I intentionally implement the scientific method in all my experiments. I can’t wait to see what’s in store this year in physics!

  7. Starting Honors Physics this week was exciting! I can’t believe I’m already back in Ms. Skinner’s class. Even though it is the first week of school, we jumped right in. Three days into it, we already competed in creating a flying contraption. I tried using a lighter type of paper and because of my change, I won the race! Although Physics will be a large workload, I feel that it will go by quickly because of how interesting the subject is and how creative Ms. Skinner has made the class! I can’t wait to see what there is in store for the rest of this year in Honors Physics!
