Lost in La Mer du Labrador

Welcome to a great adventure! You’ve learned so much this year – not just concepts, but skills, and I can’t wait to see how you are going to apply it all!

Here’s the place where you can post your questions about the Lost in the Mer du Labrador project so that everyone can see the answers.

First answer – the due date is Tuesday, April 25.

A really useful hint? Go back and re-read the project again – this time with a highlighter. It’s amazing how much I miss the first time I read something. So what’s your next question? 🙂

  1. This week we have been taking notes and discussing different types of bonds and getting started on the chemistry project. I usually struggle with keeping up with all my work, so I am trying to balance my chemistry homework and my work with other classes. I have been trying to get ahead on the project by looking up some of the items and researching the items I didn’t know. I will continue to work on the project a little at a time so that I don’t get behind.

  2. This week in Chemistry, I would rate myself a 3.5/5 stars. I was really happy about my test grade! However, I need to continue to work and study harder in this class! We have learned a lot of new information this week, so I need to start looking over it for the next test! I have not been able to work much on the project; I need to make sure that I do so I am not stressed about it in the future!

  3. This week has been going pretty well because I have been taking good notes and therefore understanding the lesson better. Also, as I read through and researched some aspects of my project, it is seeming more doable than before. Not having as much homework as usual is also helping me stay less stressed and more focused. I would rate myself a 3/5 stars for this week.

  4. This week was very good I did a good job of getting started on the project. I’m usually a really big procrastinator but this was different I’ve always heard terrible story’s about this project so it stressed me out and made me want to start early. Besides the rumors I believe I’m off to a good start. I would rate myself a 4/5 I did poorly discussing the project in the groups and got distracted easily

  5. This week has been a very good week. While working at Chick-fil-A four times this week, keeping up with school work has been easier for me than most weeks. Ionic and Covalent bonds have been an interesting chapter to learn about. My challenges this week is time management. my goal is to not procrastinate and be able to go to bed at a decent time to be able to wake up and be prepared for the day ahead.

  6. At the start of this week, i was pretty discouraged because of my chemistry test grade. Then i received the chemistry project. although i am overwhelmed, i have faith that i can finish the chemistry project in good time and begin to look over notes for the next test.

  7. This week i would rate myself a 4/5. i was really happy with what i made on my test, but it’s been hard for me to get back to taking notes. Hopefully it will all make sense when I watch the vodcasts.

    • This week I would rate myself at 3/5 because I have started researching the project. I have a better idea of what I need to research more information on. Although I still need to start it, I have brainstormed and researched. I have also talked to my classmates and brainstormed/researched with them too.

  8. I would rate myself a 3/5 this week. I understood the lesson on chemical bonds. Also I’m getting ready to start on the project and decide what I’m going to take.

  9. This week I would give myself 4/5 stars. This is because I reviewed every night this week for the quiz we had today. I felt more prepared and had less anxiety while I took the quiz, and I think this was because I went over my chemical flashcards constantly. The only downfall I experienced was that I was not able to work on my project as much as I wanted to. I plan to make up for my lost time by getting ahead this weekend, and creating a schedule to help me become more organized in this work.

  10. I have a question concerning this project.
Do we need to source the actual paper you handed out in class today, or can those things go unsourced? (ex. location we are at, the items on the plane)

  11. This week I feel i did amazing with note taking and understanding the new concepts. I am looking forward to working on my research project and improving this year in chemistry

  12. I would rate myself a 4/5 because I understood the chemical bonds and I done sufficient research on the project. I need to start my project early so I don’t do it last minute.

  13. This week in chemistry was a good one for me. My triumph for the week is I got all my homework done and took good notes. My struggle for the week is that I am having trouble with Lewis structures dealing with the double and triple bonds, but with more practice I can get it soon. I would rate myself a 3/5 stars for the week.

  14. This week we have gone over the test, started on our project, and began taking notes over chemical bonds. Doing the Lewis structure with all the different types of bonds has kind of confused me, but I know with practice it will become very easy! As far as our tests have gone, I was happy with my grade but there were several easy questions that i missed that I SO should not have! Next time I hope I can pace myself so that I can go back and double check. Lastly, I am very excited about the project! I have done some research about the location and the uses for our items and I already have an idea of some of the things I need to bring. I hope to get a very good start on it this weekend. I encourage others to as well so we can discuss and ask questions if we get a day to work on the project in class sometime soon.

  16. This week I would rate myself a 4/5. I did really well on my test and it brought my grade up. We started learning about covalent and ionic bonding this week. I am enjoying learning about bonding, and I understand the Lewis Structures. I am going to practice with the Lewis Structures so that I make sure I understand them.

  17. this week i would rate myself a 4/5. i was a little slow on learning lewis structure but once i figured it out i could do it pretty easily. also i am going to start my project this week to get a he’d start on it

  18. This week in chemistry I had a good week. I took good notes and understood most of the material. I’m probably gonna need more time on the new stuff we learned Friday but other than that I did good .

  19. I would rate myself a 3/5 stars this week. This week was different than what I was use to. The video about batteries was interesting and informative, and I wish we could have done the design challenge. I think I did good on my quiz though I could have spread out my study time a bit. I am very excited for explorer zone and can’t wait for it! I feel slightly anxious about the chemistry project so I will need to manage my time.

  20. this week in chemistry I struggled with the stuff at the end of the week, but I remembered to do my homework. I rate myself a 2/5.

  21. This week I would rate myself a 3.5/5. I’m trying to understand what we are doing but it’s confusing to me. I’m looking forward to doing the project.

  22. This week I would say I struggled with getting back into the process of school, but I feel that I am understanding this chapter well about chemical bonds, and I feel that I understood it pretty well while doing the homework last night. My plan for the weekend is to get more research done on my chemistry project. I would rate myself a 3.5/5 for this week.

  23. This week in chemistry, I would rate myself a 4/5. I did well on my test, and I am confident about the chemistry project. I understood the lesson and am prepared to go forward learning about chemical bonds.

  24. This week I rate myself a 4/5. I feel like I am doing a good job on the lewis structures and I hope to do good on this chapter.

  25. My triumph this week was understanding the lewis structures and all the types of bonds. My struggle was trying to get back into the flow of things. Hopefully, next week it’ll be back to normal.

  26. This week in chemistry I learned how to write a lewis structure. I would rate myself a 3/5 because I struggled at first with lewis structures but I got better after doing the homework.

  27. This week i have really cranked down and worked hard and have really been trying to stay on top of all my subjects especially chemistry because this last nine weeks will count the most. I would recommend working on your chemistry project every single day and staying on top of it, because deadlines approach faster than you think

  28. This week I would rate myself 4/5 I did very well on my test and had a good start on my project. I also understood the lesson this week although I missed today’s lesson I’m pretty sure I will be able to catch on.

  29. This week has been a good week for me in Chemistry! I felt very prepared for the quiz we had today and I feel like I did good. Talking about our explore zone exhibits has been very exciting and I’m looking forward to it. I think I’m keeping a good pace on the project, I’ve researched the location and most of the items and I have a good idea of what I’m taking. This weekend I’m making a calendar for myself so I don’t get behind.

  30. I would rate myself a 5/5 for this week because I took good notes, did my homework and worked on my project some

  32. This week i would rate myself a 3/5. I had trouble with the Lewis structure early on but i’m getting the hang of it now. I took very good notes this week too.

  33. Rate: 4/5
When first starting back with chemistry, I was worried that I had forgotten everything we had learned before, however; this turned out not to be true. When working on the Lewis structures with single bonds, I had a easy time and was able to complete them no problem. But, when we first began working with the triple and double bonds today, I struggled just a little. Hopefully, after practicing them while doing the homework, I understand them more.

  34. This week in chemistry I would rate myself a 3/5. I was happy with my test grade and i know how to study for the next test. I understood most of the things we learned except the Lewis structures are difficult for me.

  35. I would rate myself a 3/5 this week. I was understanding the lewis structures very well, and only had a little bit of trouble doing the double and triple bonds. Hopefully, by doing the homework, I can understand the bonds even better.

  36. I would rate myself a 3/5 stars. I learned about Lewis structures which I’m still kind of struggling with. I was pretty lost throughout the week but I feel like I took good enough notes where I can go back over them.

  37. this week was not very hard in the lesson. the lewis structures were easy and the project will be hard. i just need to follow directions. i’d give myself a 4/5

  38. This week has been pretty rough for me with getting my test back and then my project and starting work on it but then we took notes on chapter 6 and I feel like I’m doing pretty good on that chapter

  39. This week was a good week for me. I was fairly happy with my test grade and the lesson and Lewis structures I understand. But the project is gunna take a while and I’m gunna have to pace myself on it

  40. I am finding many sources online for these items that are exactly as described on our sheet with only one difference: the color (for example… a green polyvinyl chloride sheet or a sewing kit with red and yellow thread). Are we allowed to use these sources or do they have to be identical to the items described. Thanks! 😀
