Physics 3-8-17 Overview of Chapter 8

PHYSICS: So I may have been a little wrong about the difficulty of last night’s problems, but aren’t you glad we went over them! Great review today. My apologies on the recording – I kept forgetting when I hit pause and when I didn’t!!

God bless you as you study for your test!

  1. I would rate myself a 4 out of 5 for this week. I was doing very poorly on the homework that was assigned over the weekend and on Monday. Due to this, I was actually freaking out about our test on Wednesday. I thought I had a decent understanding of the concepts; however, the problems showed much differently. I spent more time studying for this test than I ever have before. As a result, I am pleased to say that I felt that the test went extremely well. As long as I didn’t make careless errors – which I would have been able to check but I ran out of time – I feel decent about my score. As for the ExploreZone research, I am very excited about my exhibit. I had fun researching ideas and watching videos, but when I get down to my exhibit, most of it came from my head and things we did in class. Though I have written a Sparkvue/Capstone exhibit, I hope to be doing the Bernoulli exhibit I have created. This is funny due to how stressed I was at the beginning of the week with Bernoulli! Anyway, I think the exhibit will be extremely fun, and the kids should enjoy it too!

  2. I would rate myself a 4 out of 5 for this week. Although our airplanes are really all we have done this week, I would say that my group’s airplane worked out fairly well. Tuesday it was having trouble getting in the air, but after we adjusted its center of gravity so it would stop nosediving, I would say that it worked great. Today, it worked for a while until it started to mess up near the end. We had to keep messing with it near the end of class to get it to continue flying straight. I’m excited for ExploreZone because I have my exhibit chosen as well as my assistants and I think it is going to be a load of fun. The Rube Goldberg project is also going fairly well. Right now, my group has an extremely “rough” rough draft; however, it has form. I am extremely nervous about the design challenge tomorrow because as of this point, I have not come up with any good ideas. Hopefully, that will be different tomorrow!

  3. I rate myself a 3 out of 5 stars for this week. The Airplane Lab was very difficult for me, Karen, and Jonathan, but we finally got our plane to fly after numerous attempts. Although, we still had a lot of trouble keeping our plane steady and making sure that it flew every single time. I am ecstatic that I did well on my last test, though! When I saw my grade on Edline, I seriously thought it was a typo. I am so thankful for your vodcasts and, after a large amount of studying, that I fully understood chapter 8. Now, I am so excited to get my inertia exhibit ready for ExploreZone! I can’t wait to explain Newton’s first law of motion to kids through some really fun experiments. I am very worried about our next design challenge, though, so hopefully at least one of my three ideas will allow me to survive!

  4. I would rate myself 4 out of 5 stars this week. The air plane went very well for my group. The first day we had trouble with the plane flying normally then diving. We adjusted the wings in the correct position after the third flight and on the forth flight it flew perfectly. The second day we were able to time the planes revolutions at first. Near the end we had to readjust the wings in order for it to fly correctly again. My groups rube goldberg machine is also going fairly well. I am unsure if some of the steps will work in reality, but there are other options in case they dont work. Im ready to work on explore zone today and get that down pat. I also think our next design challenge will be the most difficult one yet. I have ideas ready, but im worried they may not work. Hopefully one of them will work.

  5. This week I’d say that I deserve a least five of five stars. The reason being my group for the lab actually got the plane to work. The plane might not have flown well, but we got the lab done. The Explore Zone stuff went pretty well too. I am glad that I was able to test the rocket at school. Next week I will need to finish repairing the Newton’s Cradle and testing what mixture of alka seltzer and water works best.

  6. This week, I rate myself a 5 out of 5. I did great this week. Our airplane lab was difficult, but I felt like I really understood the principles behind it and our plane worked great. It only took us a few tries to get it right. I also feel like Explorer Zone is going great. I feel all of our exhibits are great and its going to be a fantastic Explorer Zone. The only thing I did struggle with this week was the design challenge, but we ended up not doing that so I won’t include it in this week’s webpost.
