Hon Chemistry 3-6-17 Chapter 6 Overview & Help Session

HON CHEMISTRY: You did it! We finally finished the chapter. Here’s our overview of the test tomorrow. Below that is the help session from this morning.

Do you feel like you are under water with all that you have to do? Here’s a good place to start getting organized. Make a chart, a really big chart of “What I need to memorize,” “What I need to know how to do,” and “What I need to be able to apply/discuss.” Then start practicing the things you have have the list!! Practice is especially important on the “problem” like objectives such as Lewis structures, drawing ionic bonding, etc. I would also encourage you to make lists of possible discussion questions and then practice answering them for the test. If there are things you are unsure about, go back and watch parts of old vodcasts.

Another idea to help you study is to use the “Visual Concepts” part of the online textbook for this chapter. And don’t forget that a great place to parctice dot notation and Lewis structures is at sciencegeek.net and practice the things from our chapter that are in the Unit 3 Review Activities. You get feedback right away to know if your answer is right or not, and that’s a good thing.

We’ve covered quite a lot in this chapter. God bless you as you study! I’ll be praying for you!!

  1. I would rate myself 1/5 stars this week. I struggled with the test and the design challenge. For the next design challenge I will make sure to ration my supplies carefully.

  2. This week has been a struggle. I feel like I studied a lot for the test and I came to the help session and everything, but I don’t feel like I did good on the test. Now I know that for the next test I need to study more and do a better job at my own “What to Study” list. I’m trying really hard not to stress to much about Explore Zone, but it’s kind of overwhelming having to come up with a fun and dramatic experiment for little kids. Also, the Design Challenge was kind of overwhelming too. I feel like Morgan Elizabeth and I did a pretty good job handling the monkey wrenches but it still took a lot of brain power so I’m glad it’s almost spring break.

  3. I feel like I accomplished a lot this week. The lab today went really well for Ann-McKeel and me! We not only paced ourselves and finished on time, but rationed our supplies and were able to easily overcome the “wrenches” thrown in our way! However, the test, even though it was supposed to be easy, was pretty challenging to me. I studied 2 days before the test, so I was able to watch all of the vodcasts again. That helped tremendously, but I blanked on several sections… All that aside, I know that this was a good 3rd 9-weeks in chemistry. I have learned a lot, not only about chemistry, but also about myself. I have been working on not stressing so much about everything, and as much as I want to prove to myself that I can rise to any challenge I face, I have had to teach myself to put it all in God’s hands. If I make a good grade on a test, it is because God has worked through me and strengthened me to overcome that challenge.

  4. This week I would rate myself 3/5. I feel like my partner and I did really well with the design challenge and overcoming the wrenches given to us. Likewise, I have enjoyed researching ideas for ExploreZone, and I think that it will be a lot of fun. However, some of the multiple choice questions on the test were a struggle for me, so I need to do a better job of making my own “Stuff to Know” sheet.

  5. This week I would rate myself a 4.5/5. I feel like I did relatively well on the test and did really well in planning and studying ahead so I wasn’t cramming material in my brain before the test. I will make sure I continue to do this for each test. My lab partner and I did well on our design challenge, but struggled a bit with the amount of each material.

  6. I would rate myself a 4/5 this week because it was less stressful than normal. Rebecca and I did really well in the discovery lab, and we were able to work together to get accomplished. However I didn’t do as well on my chemistry test even though I felt like I did a good job preparing and studying.

  7. This week, I would rate myself 3/5. I fell behind because I was sick, ants that affected my whole week. Also, only 2 questions on my test I missed because I truly did not know the answer. The rest were silly mistakes (and I even went back and checked my test twice!) Even worse, they were mistakes I had not made on any homework or other assignments! So now I know that once I get to the test, I need to be able to calm myself down so that I don’t make silly mistakes from being under pressure. However, I had a lot of fun in the design challenge and feel like I did well with all the curve balls, and learned a lot from it too,

  8. this week I would rate myself a 2/5. I did not do as good as I thought on the test and I should have studied a lot in advance, especially when the test only has 25 multiple choice. I think I handled the design challenge very well and enjoyed it. Thankful for this break!

  9. This week I would rate myself 3/5 stars considering that’s also the same ratio of days I was able to attend this week. I felt okay about my test but I didn’t study the concepts enough. I’m trying to find another ExploreZone idea but I’m struggling with figuring out some hands on activities. I’m grateful for spring break tho!

  10. I would rate myself a 2/5 this week because I struggled with the multiple choice questions on the test, and I learned that I need to do a better job at making a “things to know” sheet. I really enjoyed the design challenge and I believe that my lab partners and I handled the surprises well, but I also learned that we need to do a better job rationing supplies. Researching for ExploreZone has been extremely interesting and informative.

  11. I would rate myself a 3/5 stars this week. I think I could have prepared and studied for the test a little bit better but I did well on the test. Being sick I haven’t felt well but it did not impact me too much this week. I thought the design challenge was fun and enjoyed it. We could have prepared things a bit better for it but overall it was an interesting and informative activity. I am excited for explorer zone and can not wait to teach kids about why I love science.

  12. I would rate myself a 3/5 for this week. I studied quite a bit for the test and spread it out over two days. I made a study guide with screenshots from podcasts and all the notes from the chapter, which helped a lot. I did good on my test, but not as good as I was expecting. However, I am pleased with the fact that I handled not having a stuff to know sheet pretty well. The design challenge was pretty stressful but now I know how to handle them and will be more prepared next time.

  13. The design challenge was easily coolest event this week and we all did so well. It was weird when it was mentioned that we didn’t freak out and it kind of took me back because I didn’t freak out! And I honestly think we all exceeding our expectations for ourselves. For the test I could’ve studied better, I have such a bad habit of procrastinating it’s not even funny and if you guys have any solutions to procrastinating I’m sure it would greatly help me and other people.

    I’d rate myself a 4/5 this week

  14. This week I would rate myself a 2/5. I didn’t prepare well enough for test, and the design challenge was slightly frustrating.

  15. This week I would rate myself 3/5 stars. I did fine on my test, I guess, but I really struggled on the design challenge. I’m really excited about my ideas for explorer zone, though, and I am so ready to get started on that. However, I am also very excited for spring break. So, I’ll see y’all in the 4th nine weeks!!

  16. This week I would rate my self 2/5 stars. This is because I thought I would manage my time better, but I did not. This rating is also because of my lack of initiative and laziness concerning my assignments. I did not study ahead for this test as I should have, nor did I work ahead on these Expore Zone rough drafts. But, I will try to focus more on these details this last nine weeks. I know that I will succeed more in these upcoming months because I will rid myself of my distractions, and I will keep better track of my assignments too.

  17. This week I would rate myself a 4/5 stars. I have researched some things for the project, but still need to focus on that more. I also enjoyed the super battery video. I thought it was really cool to see how batteries are made and understand how they work. I will be working on the project this weekend. I have been preparing for the quiz this week and hopefully am going to do well on it.

  18. I have researched some things for the project, but still need to focus on that more. I also enjoyed the super battery video. I thought it was really cool to see how batteries were made and understand how they work. I will be working on my project this weekend. I have been preparing for the quiz this week and hopefully am going to do well on it. Overall, I would rate myself a 4/5 stars.

  19. This week i would rate myself a 2/5. I studied A LOT for my test and was disappointed when I got it back to check it. I struggled this week to begin my project, even though i have time, i am going to try and space it out to balance my workload. I did really well this week in researching some of the items on the list and understanding there uses. Im hoping to do really well on this project.

  20. This week in Chemistry I would rate myself 5/5 stars. When I found out that we were having the quiz on Friday, I immediately made flashcards and began reviewing every night. I feel prepared for the quiz tomorrow, so I believe that I should do well. I am also going to try and make time to work on my project this weekend, so I can work on it in little bits at a time. So far, I am researching about the materials that I can use and coming up with possible ideas.

  21. I would rate myself 4/5 stars this week. We got our project this week, and I have already researched a few of the items and started scheduling out deadlines for myself. I’m very thankful for a sort of low maintenance week because we had so much going on in other classes. I struggled finding time to study but I felt good about the quiz.

  22. Throughout this week, I’d rate myself a 4/5 stars. I successfully made up the lava lamp lab and that was exciting. I wasn’t super excited about my test grade from the test we took before spring break. I believe I did well on the quiz we took today and I’m proud of mys of for keeping my flash cards all this time.

  23. This week I would rate myself 4/5 stars. It was a fairly easy week; however, it was also a long one. So thankful it’s Friday!
We got our chemistry project Monday, and it looks very complicated and complex. I have already started researching though! I wasn’t too thrilled about my test from the week before spring break; however, I feel alright about the test I took today. I didn’t get to study as much as I’d hoped, but I remembered a whole lot! Looking forward to next week.

  24. This week I would rate myself 4/5. It’s been cool figuring out my explore zone exhibit with my partner and I think I did decently on the quiz.

  25. I haven’t been stressing out surprising, even though the chemistry project was just assigned. I’m really excited for explore zone. But I really need to train myself to be loud and fun and make sure I’m not just explaining and being boring. I’ve been looking at different things for different items kind of speratically all this week and I’m hoping to start soon on actually getting the solid research down and no procrastinate

This week I’d rate myself 4/5

  26. This week I would rate myself 5/5 stars. I have already started researching for my project and I am pretty sure what items I’m gonna take already. Also, I studied well in advance for the quiz on Friday and I feel like I did very well on it. Also, experimenting with lycapodium powder was awesome and im super excited for ExploreZone now!
