Hon Chemistry 3-1-17 Intermolecular Forces

HON CHEMISTRY: Well, here it is, the very last lecture from chapter 6 – intermolecular forces. (Don’t forget they’re also called van der Waals forces!) Tons of application, from bugs walking on water to little fishes breathing dissolved oxygen.

  1. This week I would rate myself 4/5. I feel like I did well and got my work done even while being handicapped on my writing hand. Also, I understand the concepts and application from Chapter 6, and I am going to begin studying this weekend for the test on Tuesday.

  2. I would rate myself a 3/5 this week because I’m struggling to keep up with the notes so I feel behind. I’m also trying to understand the concepts on chapter 6. This weekend I’m going to rewatch the vodcasts and prepare for the test. The beads in the bottle lab was fun but now that I’m doing the questions I’m realizing that I’m having a hard time putting in words how it works on a molecular level.

  3. This week has been a little stressful, especially since I missed Monday. At first, when we had just learned Lewis structures, I felt really confident, but as we started to add in all the new information, I got pretty overwhelmed. I’m struggling with the applications of polarity and molecular geometry. I’m definitely learning through this class that, like you mentioned today, giving my all sometimes won’t be enough. I have to place my value in Christ and trust Him to get me through this.

  4. This week in chemistry I would rate myself a 3/5. I feel pretty good with lewis structures. I also feel good about ionic bonding. I am struggling with the discussion questions on the worksheet we did this week. I need to study a lot in advance for this test, since I do not understand a lot of the notes.

  5. This week I would rate myself a 4/5. I have barely struggled at all this week except for maybe not understanding one or two concepts. I have really understood this week and did well in the lab and have been making preparations for my next test.

  6. This week has kind of been a struggle for me. I feel like I got behind on some of the notes and I can definitely tell that we’re starting to go faster. I know that to study well for this test I’ll need to rewatch a lot of the vodcasts this weekend and start studying early. Also, I wouldn’t be opposed to a help session before the test so I can have one more time in class to nail down the concepts.

  7. This week in Chemistry I would rate myself a 3/5. Now that we have finished the chapter, I feel like everything is some what “running together”, so I need review over my notes and become more organized this weekend. I am also struggling with some of the discussion questions and applying molecular geometry to them. Finally, I also did pretty good on time management during the two activities we did this week.

  8. This week I would rate myself 3/5. I understand most of the concepts, but I’ve had so many things going on that I haven’t been truly focused in class, and afterschool im usually multitasking so I’m not super focused while doing homework either. I know this test is going to take a lot of studying. Also, I agree that a help session would be helpful.

  9. I would rate myself a 4/5 stars this week. I understood the material we learned and didn’t have any problems so far. The labs we had to do this week I think I did very sloppy and could have done much better but that may be from stress and anxiety from the pass few weeks.

  10. This week I would rate myself 3/5 stars. I was very proud of my recent test grade. I am struggling to understand ionic compounds, but I am going to look back over it. I am worried about the upcoming test because we will not have a stuff to know sheet. I really love the activities we did this week for some hands on learning.

  11. This week I would rate myself 4/5 stars because I’ve done good on my homework and I understand most of the concepts. However, I am a little worried about the test Tuesday because I haven’t had much time to study and there are a lot of different bonds to keep straight.

  12. This weak in Chemistry I’d rate myself a 4/5

Triumph: I’d did really good on the labs and I really understood them. I feel like I was able to make really good observations and know why.

Struggle: I understand Lewis Structures to an extent, so I definitely need to work on that for the test.

  13. This week I would rate myself a 3/5. I’m understanding the concepts pretty well, but I struggled some today with finding the why in the activity.

  14. This week I would rate myself 4/5 stars. This week has felt like an easier and more successful week than normal. I did well on my recent test grade, and I am really understanding Lewis structures. I also feel pretty good about ionic bonding; however, I am not completely getting the discussion questions correct. The labs and activities were fun!
Now I just need to study for the test on Tuesday. Let’s hope we all do well.

  15. This week I would rate myself 3/5 stars. This is because even though I did better than I expected to on my test, I would’ve had even greater success if I was a more careful test taker. A success however was my note-taking and writing down of assignments. I am worried though that next week I will have trouble keeping up with my assignments because I know that I will have lots of them. But, for this next test I will need to make my own study guide, and that it my main concern for this upcoming week.
