Physics 2-14-17 Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation, Pt. 1

PHYSICS: Wait! There’s a fourth law? Yep – Newton’s law of universal gravitation! So when you jump off of something, the Earth moves, huh?

You’ve learned little g, now you know big G! Good job setting up the problems, also make sure you can apply the concepts.

Ready to escape? We’ll tackle the rest of the applications of this law tomoorrow!

  1. I rate myself a 4 out of 5 for this week so far. Learning about Newton’s Universal Law of Gravitation and how much it applies to our lives on earth has been so interesting! It’s crazy to know that there is practically a physics-related reason for everything that happens on earth, from earth’s orbit to high tides. Reviewing over this chapter’s problems has helped me immensely in studying for the test, but I still need to review the conceptual information heavily. The concepts in this chapter have been a tad hard for me to grasp, especially rotational inertia. It would be amazing if we could focus on conceptual information and older problems tomorrow to make sure that I fully understand all of the information and don’t forget how to do anything! I am studying hard and praying hard for a great test on Friday.

  2. This week I rate myself a 4 out of 5. I really struggled with understanding the conceptual stuff behind circular motion and rotation. As the week went on, I slowly understood more and more, until Wednesday in class, everything clicked. Thankfully I was able to get all of this material down before I took the test Thursday, which I feel I did well on. The problems are a completely different story. I understood the problems almost from the beginning and had almost no trouble with those. The only ones I did have trouble with were the at an angle critical velocity problems, but that was because I didn’t know the formula.
