Physics 4-29-16 Applications of Lenses & Refraction

PHYSICS: Today was the last of the applications of lenses and refraction. I love it when you get to see how physics crosses over into other disciplines of science – from physiology with myopia and hyperopia and how lenses can help, to how microscopes and telescopes work. And also ever important to know – why is sky blue, and why are sunrises and sunsets orange?!?

Speaking of lasts – the LAST chapter test is Tuesday!! What should you practice? Application of concepts, ray diagrams with mirrors and refraction through a transparent medium and lenses, and problems. Hey, here’s something to think about… can something really disappear into thin air? How??

  1. This week we learned 17 chemical reactions and I think I can learn this and memorize them for our tests and stuff by notecards and applying them every chance I get and by doing chemical reaction worksheets

  2. As the tears fall from my eyes (probably from stress…), I am reminiscing on all of my past web posts from Chemistry to Physics… Thanks Ms. Skinner for being such an awesome teacher and encourager to have throughout the years! Can’t believe this year is over. Seems like it just began! I am prepared for our test tomorrow!! Hoping to be exempt! Thanks for everything!!

  3. Wow I have no clue how I made it through this class. While i have had the most fun in this class i have also been stressed the most. My favortie thing I learned about in physics was about the use of momentum and how momentum effects everyday life. Thanks!

  4. Triumph: even though I’m not sure if STARS is neccessary this last we post, here I go. I finished the year pretty strong and am happy with myself! In the end, I’m glad I took honors physics and I’m glad I got to have you Ms. Skinner one more time! In this class, not only did I learn physics, but I learned about life. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. You taught us how to treat everyone like Christ would because every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Thanks for the lessons!

  5. What a year it has been! I can’t believe it all came to such a sudden stop kinda like the sudden stop that kills you when jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. Ms. Skinner thank you for all that you have done for each of us. Without you most of us wouldn’t be the person we are today; most of us would have not lost so many brain cells to stress… just kidding, but most of us would be in for major change of pace in college had you not constantly challenged us to push ourselves mental. Also thank you for anti-spam messages that are usually actual words not just random letters that are unreadable!

    • And that was JUST “A” part… lol

  6. Struggle: This past week or two has made me frustrated with myself. I can’t believe what just happened.. Anyways, I have really enjoyed this school year and I have enjoyed stepping up to the challenge that you presented us with! I will definitely remember this class and how it has helped to prepare me for the stress, conflicts, and busyness of life outside of Northpoint. Thank you for your hard work and sacrifices as our teacher and the love for the Lord you showed us everyday! You are appreciated and also thank you Mrs. Jackie if you are reading this. You have also put in a lot of work to make this year possible and I thank you for that.

  7. Triumph: There were moments I wasn’t so sure I would, but I did indeed survive physics. It’s been a challenging year. However, we had some fun times with design challenges and the Six Flags trip. I have definitely learned a lot this year, and I will continue to scream Bernoulli every time I see an example.

    Goodbye and thanks for everything!

  8. I am honestly speechless about this whole year and everything we have learned! I cant believe its over and I wish we could go on! Its been such an honor to learn from the best teacher out there! Thanks for everything and I cant wait to come back and see you soon!

    • And shout out to Mrs. Jackie for being the best assistant there is!

P.S. sorry announcements wont be as fun without my mess ups haha

      • Thank you Nelson! Going to miss you guys and watching each of you rise up to meet each and every challenge. I know each of you are going to be awesome and I can’t wait to see what God has planned for you! Mrs. Jackie

  9. It finally done! I survived Mrs. Skinner’s Honors Physics!!! Thanks you so much for sharing your knowledge to help me learn this year! Thank you for always pushing me and my classmates to do our best. In all honesty, I feel fully prepared to take on my physics class next semester and college. Thank you for always to be willing to share Christ with us through your actions and how you teach and how you have constantly prayed for us through out the year!!

    Love you Mrs. skinner!!!

  10. Honors Physics is undoubtedly the most challenging course I’ve ever taken at Northpoint. You’ve stretched our brains, always asking us for just a little more critical thinking just when we thought finding the answer was futile. You taught me to manage my time through our many assignments, and you’ve equipped me with the ability to face and conquer a mountain of stress. Most importantly, however, I learned to see God’s perfect design in everything we know: from mechanics to electromagnetic radiation, it’s amazing to see the wonders of the world He’s created. Thank you for showing me these things, and thank you for making me a better student. I’m going to miss our 5th period class!

  11. This year has been so much fun in physics! It’s been cool to be able to see the things we learned in class play out in everyday life! I will definitely remember the fun times we had from 12-1 while I’m in college!

  12. Wow! I can’t believe physics is over! Sometimes it felt like it would never end… But I have so many great memories with all of y’all, and I’ve grown so much through this class. There’s many real world applications to all the principles we learned this year, so I’ll remember this class forever. Good job everyone!!!

  13. I can’t believe this year has come to an end! I’m gonna miss our class and all the fun times we’ve had, including design challenges! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge about academics and just life in general! I will definitely be back to visit you! Thanks again!

  14. Wow THIS IS MY LAST WEB POST EVER!!!!! This year was a blast! And my favorite moment was definitely hanging out with some awesome people (especially ms. skinner) all year!
