Chemistry 4-26-16 Describing Chemical Reactions

CHEMISTRY: So tell me again – how do you know if a chemical reaction has occurred? Here’s the lecture on the evidences of a chemical change and the intro to balancing chemical equations. Great to be back to chemistry!

I love what you did with the paper chromatography lab yesterday and today. Lab reports, including your pictures of your will be due Saturday midnight. Note the change – you won’t be drawing the results, instead you’ll take pictures of BOTH sets of chromatographs and BOTH sets of unknowns. Tomorrow, when you first get to class, take photos of your chromatographs with a ruler laying beside them so you can also your results at home for your observation. Be sure your initials are on everything!!

  1. This week in chemistry we have been working on a paper chromatography lab. It hasn’t been to difficult, and it seems like my lab partner and I are making good progress. We will finish the lab later this week. Today we learned about chemical reactions and how they occur. I rate myself a 3/5 this week for having difficulty understanding some of the chemical reactions, but also for following the lab instructions and finishing the homework.

  2. This week, I learned about chemical reactions through watching the Vodcast. Also, we have been doing the Paper Chromatography lab. When filling in the data table on the lab, my lab partner and I had some trouble but were able to finish the lab. Overall, I would rate myself a 3/5 for learning new material and the amount of time I put into the lab.

  3. This week we did a lab. Our time management was almost perfect although we had to back track and figure some stuff out. But overall it was a good week. This week was a whirl wind for me because I had to get as much work as I could finished before I left for Dallas. I got a lot done and was really proud of my work ethic. I still have some stuff to do when I get back Sunday night but hopefully I won’t be extremely tired and be able to get it done.

  4. This week in chemistry I learned more in depth about chemical reactions and how to balance chemical equations. It will be a little difficult trying to catch up with the cLab, lab write up, and other book work since I’m missing a few day out of town, but I will hopefully catch up. I liked balancing the equations and feel really confident with them. Since I’m a little behind because I’m missing some days, I would rate myself a 4 out of 5 for this week.

  5. This week we learned about balancing chemical equations. I’m really struggling with understanding them so far. Hopefully I can understand them better when I get back from the trip. I really liked the paper chromatography lab we did this week. Although we had some problems with it at the end. I would rate myself 2/5 stars this week since it was kinda rough.

  6. This week in chemistry I learned how to balance equations. Although I did struggle with it at first I think I’m finally getting the hang of it! My lab partner and I did good time managing our time in lab this week. I rate myself a 4/5 because although I didn’t understand the balancing equations I feel like I’m catching on! Looking forward to next week!

  7. This week has been a struggle trying to understand how to balance equations. After today’s class I feel like I understand how to do it better.

  8. This week has been very chill and more in depth to learning and I really like it. I’m getting ready to graduate and I’m rating myself a 4/5 for not getting side tracked

  9. This week we’re learning about chemical reactions and reversible reactions. This is not complicated, but it can be if you manage to get side tracked or do not pay attention to notes. We’ve also worked on a lab this week. I missed the first day, and so this caused me to have to watch the others complete their lab in class. So this week I would give myself 5/5 for being able to understand, and keep up with notes.

  10. This week in chemistry I’d rate myself a 3/5 stars. The lab wasn’t very difficult and it was interesting trying to forge Abraham Lincolns signature. The lab was definitely a triumph for me. Balancing chemical equations isn’t difficult but I struggle with remembering the rule about the diatomic molecules.

  11. At the beginning of this week I had trouble balancing chemical equations. I kept wanting to add the numbers instead of multiplying them. I like that you gave us the worksheets and the vertual lab over balancing equations before moving on to the next thing in the lesson. But what REALLY helped me was when you worked some of the harder ones on the board. Thank you!

  12. This week in chemistry I would rate myself 4/5. At the beginning of the week I did not completely understand balancing chemical equations but as the week went on I got very good at it. I’m also looking forward to learning about chemical reactions because I think it will be interesting to learn about. The Paper Chromatography lab was interesting in how you determined different types of pen inks.
