Chemistry 2-2-16 Quantum Model of the Atom

CHEMISTRY: So which are they? Are electrons particles or are they waves? Here’s the lecture from Tuesday. If you’re still having questions, you will not only want to watch this vodcast again, but also you might watch these video clips that we saw in class today – The Emission Spectrum of Hydrogen, and also this one Animated Quantum Mechanics.

Tomorrow is the Flame Test lab! Don’t forget to pre-write the lab. Check the syllabus to see what you are supposed to do.

UPDATE REMINDER: Don’t forgot the homework update! Add this to your syllabus – due Thursday: Pg. 119 – 122: 6, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15, 47, 50, 52, 53, 56 – Due Thur.

  1. I really enjoyed the flame lab today. I would give my partner and I a five out of five stars for the lab. I feel like my partner and I didn’t struggle at all throughout the lab.

  2. This week was a triumph for me. The flame lab went really well and my partner and I got it done in time. I would rate myself a 4/5 for this week.

  3. This week I rate myself 4/5 stars. I struggled a little in the flame test lab but it was really cool to see how different metals make the flame turn different colors! I also really understand the realationship between energy and frequency and wavelength and the problems seem very easy to me.

  4. This week I feel like I Triumphed in taking notes. My notes were very organized and accurate. Often times my notes are a mess, but this week I really listened, payed attention, and understood and I can see it in my notes.

  5. I rate myself a 6 out of 10 this week at first i was confused about the flame test lab but i read over the lab in study hall before the class and i understood.

  6. I rate myself a 6 out of 10 this week, me and my lab partner were able to finish the Flame Test lab accurately and with time to clean up without rushing.

  7. This week I would rate myself a 4/5 because i finished both my labs on time and did the successfully. I thought the Flames Test lab was interesting because of the way the flames changed colors!

  8. I would rate myself 4/5 this week. Me and my partner did good in the flame test and it was cool to see all of the colors produced. I am struggling with the frequency problems though.

  9. I’d rate myself a 4/5 this week. I think i did good on the flame test lab. At first it was a struggle to get organized but once we were set we finished quickly. The colors were so cool to look at. I’m struggling a little bit with frequency and wavelength problems, but i think with some more practice i’ll get the hang of it.

  10. This week we learned about the Quantum model of the atom as well as the Bohr model. We also did a lab and a virtual lab this week. I thought the Flame Tests lab was fun to do even though I was confused at first. Eventually I was able to understand what I was doing, and my lab partner and I efficiently worked through the lab, matching the compounds with the flame color they helped produce.

  11. This week I would rate myself 4 out of 5. The lab we did was the coolest lab all year getting the see the different colors of the flames was awesome can’t wait to do more labs like this. We also did a virtual lab which was cool to it had to do with the lab we did in class. The only reason I am missing a star is because I’m having a little trouble with the wave length and frequency problems. Other than that it was a great week cannot wait to learn more.

  12. I rate myself a 4/5 for this week. We did a flame test lab and it was so much fun! It was so interesting to see the colors the metals produced. We struggled at first because we had to get everything organized and set up but once we got going we were okay. I wish we wouldn’t have struggled at first because we wasted time and had to rush to clean up. But it was overall a very cool and interesting lab! It was my favorite lab that we have done so far!

  13. This week I rate myself a 4/5. I loved the flame test lab getting to see the colors. My lab partner and I did really well with time management and knowing what to do during the lab. I am looking forward to next week!

  14. this week wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. the Flame Test lab we did Wednesday was so fun and it wasn’t as complicated as it seemed, I think it was the coolest lab we’ve had! And the vlab this week was also very cool too. this week I would rate myself a 8/10!

  15. This week was very fun. I enjoyed the flame lab a lot. I rate my lab partner and I a 5 out of 5 stars for this lab. We completed the lab with no problems. I also enjoyed the virtual lab. It was very interesting being able to see all the information to without even leaving a chair.

  16. This week I would give myself a 5/5. I was on top of things this week. We did well on our labs and easily finished. I saw that my grade could be better so I worked harder on homework and took better notes. I will continue to work hard and hopefully will bring my grade up.

  17. This week I liked the flame test lab. I feel like I used my time wisely and was able to finish the lab quicker than I usually would. I also liked how we went ahead and typed up some of the lab already so Saturday when I have to turn it in I won’t have as much to do. I rate myself a 5/5 for this week.

  18. This week I would rate myself a 4 out of 5. I triumphed in the flame test lab, but I struggled in the spectrometry virtual lab. I typed up the procedure. The flame test lab was my most favorite lab this far and I liked pre writing the lab because I knew what to do whenever I was doing the lab while not having to look at the sheet.

  19. This week in class I would rate myself 4/5 stars. It did take me a little time to understand the problems we did for homework and in class, but I think I have gotten the hang of them. Also, the lab we did was very fun and exciting, and I hope we do more labs like it.

  20. This week I would rate myself a 5 out of 5 because my lab partner and I worked together very well on the lab. I was able to get my labs done quickly and didn’t spend too much time on one thing.
