Hon Chemistry 10-1-15 Mixture Separation Lab

HON CHEMISTRY: Pretty intense couple of days this week, huh? You know, I’m really proud of you! It’s one thing to be able to follow a set of directions, but it’s a whole other thing to be able to come up with the directions on your own! That’s a difficult thing to learn how to do, and you are doing a great job developing that skill.

Any questions about writing the lab report? Be sure to save it as a PDF to your Google Drive and turnitin.com. It might be a good idea to review the Digital Lab Report manuscript form.

Be careful that you give me pertinent details on your procedure. Don’t be too general, give details. Also, if your plans changed, tell me that too. And then, after you write your own conclusion, don’t forget to include all Analysis & Conclusion questions after your own Conclusion – No Extension questions.

  1. So far this week, our class has learned quite a bit on separating mixtures. My lab partner and I were able to manage our time on the lab fairly well, and being careful about what order in which we separated our mixtures certainly helped. I’m not sure if we had enough of the pure substances, but I’m giving myself a four because the concept was learned. I am still worried about the test, but I’ll be studying over the weekend.

  2. This week was stressful but i learned a lot of new things. I learned that in lab i have to use my time more dilligently. I also learned from that lab that i need to think ahead before i do the labs. Im giving myself a four ouut of five because even though i struggled i learned a whole bunch of new stuff.

  3. This week has been a little challenging so far, especially the separating mixtures lab. My partner and I were more focused on how pure the substances were instead of managing time. This week I would give myself a 3 out of 5 because even though it was challenging, I understood the concept of the lab and how important pure substances are. I am a little worried about the test, but I have already started studying and I hope I do great.

      • I agree with Aleena! This week has most definitely been stressful. The mixture separation lab was really hard, especially time management. I do understand what we have learned in this chapter, which is good, especially since we have a test coming up! I would rate myself at a 2 this week because I didn’t finish the lab.

  4. This week I struggled with the lab. It was very stressful. I almost cried. It was very difficult to do finish it in a timely manner. I learned how to separate mixtures properly.

  5. This week I struggled with creating the procedure for the mixture separation lab instead of following directions from a lab sheet. Time management was also an issue. I felt that I understood the content in Ch 1 and excelled in the virtual lab. I plan on studying diligently this weekend for the upcoming test!

  6. This week really taught me to manage my time. My lab partner and I were unable to obtain pure sand because we ran out of time. I understand how to separate everything fairly well and made sure to do it in the right order. Hopefully next time I will be better able to manage my time in lab and get everything done.

  7. I rate myself a two out of five on this lab. Me and my lab partner really struggled with this lab. We did not manage our time well at all. I will make sure to plan ahead from now on in all of our labs.
