Chemistry 9-30-15 Law of Conservation of Mass Lab

CHEMISTRY – Great job on the lab this week! So did you “see” the Law of Conservation of Mass the first time you did it? The second time? What was the difference?

Be sure and tell me about that in your conclusions. Also, give me details in your procedure. What did you do differently in the second lab and why do you think it worked?

Any other questions about writing the lab report? Be sure and include lab photos in your observations. And carefully follow the Conservation of Mass Lab Report information sheet.

The lab report is due by Thursday midnight. Save it as a PDF to your Google Drive shared folder AND turnitin.com. I’m thinking it also might be a good idea to review the Digital Lab Report manuscript form AND – did I mention, remember you must also follow the Conservation of Mass Lab Report Notes that are here on the website (lab tab above).

  1. This week in chemistry so far has been tough. Today’s lab was very challenging, and I hope I finish it by end of class tomorrow. I am doing very good with this chapter in the book though. This topic on matter seems to be my strong point. I sure hope that I will succeed with the lab tomorrow!

  2. This week in Chemistry I learned that sometimes your labs will be an epic failure, but just keep doing it and then make sure your following the instructions right. So what I learned was to be diligent and keep going

  3. This week in Chemistry I’ve felt way more confident, until the lab when we had to redo it because we messed up. Whenever we actually redid it I got my confidence back. It’s easier when I work together with my lab partner to get it done so much faster. I’m excited for part 2 of the lab to see if we can still get it done without have already done it before.

  4. This week in Chemistry, I learned that even though you may not be able to always see the Law of Conservation of Mass it is still true because it is a law. Also, I would rate myself a 4 out of 5 this because I finished my lab in a good amount of time and I did the lab correctly.

  5. Doing the same lab twice was useful for me. The second time doing it, my partner and I had a better understanding of what to do. We were able to work more efficiently and make better use of our time. Now I am determined to work hard on the rest of the lab and the lab report.

  6. This week in chemistry we learned about the law of conservation of mass. We learned that it’s always true even if you can’t see it happen. I liked being able to do part one again because i knew for sure what i was doing the second time around. I would rate my self a 9 out of 10 because i was able to do each part well and i finished in the amount of time given.

  7. This week we have been learning about conserving mass. The first day we struggled with time but the second day which I’m really glad you gave us we did alot better. We just need to make sure and work fast but make sure we aren’t working careless. I would rate myself a 3 out of 5 because the first lab day we didn’t do a really good job but the second redo day we did alot better.

  8. This week in chemistry I learned more about the law of conservation of mass and chemical reactions. I did really good on time management and accuracy for this lab. I hope today my class and I will do part 2 correctly without having to redo it. I would rate myself a 4 of 5 this week.

  9. This week i rate myself a 3 out of 5. In the lab I shouldve worked on time management more because we did not finish in the fifteen minutes given. In addition, i should have used my lab partners more by each of us assigining to different jobs. I learned more about the conservation of mass such as that you need to confine even gases to a space or you will lose mass as you lose gas such as in the baking soda and vinegar chemical reaction.

  10. Today during part 2 of the lab I would rate myself a 5 out of 5. I feel like my partner and I had no struggles. We worked very well together and because we had a plan for the lab everything went smoothly and easily.

  11. Application- This week I learned to not only read the lab before we preform it, but to actually understand it. On the first lab we did this week, I didn’t quite understand what I was reading the night before, so it took me extra time during the 15 minutes of lab time to re-read and understand what we were trying to do; however, on the second lab, I read the lab procedures and knew exactly what I was going to do before I came into the classroom. This saved a tremendous amount of time and stress.

  12. I learned this week that labs won’t always end up the way you expect them to. When you mess up you got to get up are try again. The first time we did the first part of the lab was a big failure because we were rushing and weren’t sure of what we were doing but the second time me and my lab partner worked as a team and got done with time to spare. On the second part I would rate myself a 5/5 because we worked fluently together and got done before time was up and we didn’t even have to repeat any of it.

  13. I had fun this week learning about the Law of conservation of mass this week it was definitely fun doing the lab. At first the law was invalid but if you do a specific procedure to keep all of the matter that you started off with before the chemical reaction, you learn that the law was true

  14. This lab was actually kind of fun to do. It was the first lab I feel like I didn’t have any problems doing or it wasn’t complicated. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that I am getting the hang of them or what. But anywho me and lab partner Christian worked together pretty good. We got the lab part 2 done pretty fast on our second try so that’s always good

  15. This week in chemistry I learned to pay close attention to things because it could cost you time. On the first part of the lab we were very successful but on the second part it took us a couple tries. I would rate myself a 3 for this week
