Physics 8-27-15 Motion and Displacement

PHYSICS – What “moving” lessons yesterday and today! Get it? “Moving”? Okay, okay, I’ll stop.

You did a great job with your own “intro to motion” yesterday – great job and great beginning to kinematics today! Let’s crank it up on the problems tomorrow!

  1. Triumph: I think I’m getting the hang again of this graphing tool we call Excel! It makes graphing so much more neat and easy.

  2. Serious question- Am I the only one that does not have the graphing exercises 1 & 2 available to turn in? Do you know if it is up there yet Ms. Skinner?

  3. Triumph: I now know the difference between displacement vs. distance! The buggy lab really helped me to understand. Some buggies increased in distance from their starting points, but decreased in displacement from the purple line.

  4. i struggled this week with understanding the difference between speed and velocity and motion and displacement but after yesterday’s lesson I think I’ve got it down!

  5. Triumph: this week I enjoyed learning about measuring distance and displacement. The buggy lab along with the other labs help me understand the real world involvement in the problems we solve

This week I learned the importance and utility of showing my work. Not only does failing to show one’s work often result in miscalculations, but it also results in little to no credit. I learned this the hard way when I got my test back :’). Seeking to fix my mistakes, I practiced showing my work on homework problems throughout the week. To my astonishment, my calculations were far easier to follow and far more accurate because of my efforts. While physics may involve a lot of mental blood, sweat and tears, I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and improve!
