Physics 8-20-15 Chapter 1 Test Overview & Problems

PHYSICS: God bless you as you prepare for your first physics test! Here is the info that we discussed about the test today as well as an overview of some of the problems.

Remember that memorization is very important, but even more important is applying what you’ve memorized – for example, SI system, branches of physics, etc.

Be sure and practice the problems!! Have questions? Watch the vodcasts of the lessons from this chapter or send me a txt or comment below and help each other out! I’ll be praying for you!!

  1. Rate – I think the class deserves a 5 for the way we worked together on the human density lab. Everyone had a job, and we got the information we needed. Good Job!

  2. Triumph: After some serious critical thinking, I think I’m finally understanding order-of-magnitude estimations. Not sure what made it so difficult for me to grasp, but now I’m feeling pretty confident for that section of the test!

  3. this week I learned several techniques for rounding and estimating answers. I also relearned the wonderful significant figure rules and am ready for the test tomorrow!

  4. This week I learned how to be safe during the lab. I learned all of the lab equipment and what to do if something goes wrong during an experiment. I like how we are revewing all of the safety rules so we will always be safe during labs.

  5. This week I learned how to solve math problems that actually have to do with real life. For example, I can probably determine how many grains of rice are in Kyoto’s fried rice by using the dimensions of the plate with the length of one grain of rice. Haha! Now I’m hungry!!!!!

  6. I think that it’s cool that we can find the density of a human by finding his/her mass and volume. The process of finding their volume with water replacement was really interesting.

  7. I had a blast this week with the Human Density Lab. Now I can check ‘flooding a classroom’ off my bucket list. It was great to actually apply what we learned about density to a physical and observable experiment. I think that’s why I prefer science over math. During the lab, I learned how important teamwork is to a group’s success, even in science. I can’t wait for more crazy experiences in Physics!

  8. Struggle: I struggled with the order of magnitude problems in the homework throughout the week, but during the review over the homework I began to understand what I was supposed to do.

  9. I think I’d rate myself as a 4.5 out of 5 this week. I did the best I could, but there’s always a little room for improvement. I’m really enjoying physics so far. In chemistry, Ms. Skinner taught us to not just know but know WHY, and I learned to think like a scientist. It’s fun to see the world through curious eyes, and learn to estimate the answers to fun questions like, “How many grains of rice are there in my fried rice?” (Great question, Morgan) or “how many seconds are there in the average lifetime?” It’s good to be back. Ms. Skinner’s classes are always interesting and fun but, of course, also very challenging. 🙂
