Hon Chemistry 5-12-15 Gas Laws, Pt. 1

HON CHEMISTRY: Our first look at the gas laws: Boyle’s law, Charles Law, Gay-Lussac’s law . These guys did great work – and you’ve got to love their hair!!

Be sure you use Kelvin in the problems – not Celcius. And make double dog sure you use the formulas correctly! Rearrange that thing – no plug and play!!

  1. I would rate myself a 3 out of 5 for this week because even though I started off having lots of trouble with the gas properties, I am now starting to understand them. Knowing that working these formulas at STP will really help me! I am also excited for the exam as I’ve started studying!

  2. I will give myself a three out of five for this week. I would give myself this rating is because I worked hard on the Monday night book work and the Boyle’s Law lab and got most of the answers correct. The trouble I had was with the Tuesday and Wednesday night book work because I had to learn it myself. If I had worked a little harder I would have got more correct.

  3. For the week, I would give myself a 2/5 because I struggled to follow and comprehend the gas laws. With the homework, I got extremely frustrated very quickly and did not do the best on it. Towards the end of the week, I was able to understand the gas laws after you went over them with us. Also I really enjoyed the “elephant toothpaste” demo today in class. It was really nice to be able to see a real life application of the uses of catalysts. Seeing it in a lab helped to make it a more real concept in my mind. Lastly, for the exam I plan on doing the ENTIRE packet in order to make the best possible grade.

  4. This week I learned how much air pressure has an effect on everyday things. I learned when pressure goes down, volume increases. I also learn when temperature increases pressure increases.

  5. This week was really interesting. From learning about gas laws to watching all of your super cool experiments (the “elephant toothpaste” honestly excited me more than the average kid) to preparing for the final exam, it was a very busy week. For the next couple of days I am going to be giving my best effort to study for this exam. Although chemistry has been a struggle for me this year, I believe it has helped me to grow as a student. Thank you for pushing me to do things I did not know I was capable of doing. I feel like this class has prepared me for what college is going to be like.

  6. Mrs. Skinner,
Well, I feel like this is our last “hoorah!” From this year of you helping me to not have panic attacks in your class, to pushing me to do my best no matter what, to reminding me to do my webposts! I love you so much! Can’t wait to see what God has in store!
Anyways… I struggled this week with the laws and problems. Partly, I think it was because you weren’t here quite a bit but I’ve been working problems and identify which law it applies to!
    Over and out

  7. I give myself 4 out of 5 stars this week. I did pretty good with Charles’s, Boyle’s, and Gay-Lussac’s laws. I did very well applying them by working problems, but I’m having a tough time remembering which one is which (I’ll make sure I fix that before the exam!). Also, I did very well on the stoichiometry test.
